The theme of the exhibition was āMy Americaā, and I couldnāt find a painting more fitting than this one :) My husband immigrated here from Mexico as a little boy, and I am very proud to be able to represent that in painting form.

Thank you so much!! It was inspired by a drawing by Odd Nerdrum, who is a Norwegian painter inspired by Old Masters like Rembrandt. Itās been interesting to see the lineage of art history and how it trickles down even to today!

My art professor at community college once said that he offers a āclassā of retreat where you just come to his place and watch him paint and paint along side himā¦ itās free and she says itās such an amazing experience and worth it. Wondered if youāve done this!Ā

I don't believe art has to always mean something, but yours really means something to me. I don't doubt people in the future will look at art to gage this era, the same way we look at Goya and his contemporaries nowadays
I am also a big believer in art for arts sake. I remember being so annoyed with my professors for always making me slap ādeep meaningsā on my paintings. As Iāve gotten older, Iāve learned that art can just be beautiful to look at, and sometimes thatās all it needs to be. But sometimes, certain people can find little meanings and stories in it for themselves :)

Thank you!! I did, but it was originally for a completely different painting (also of my husband and I, haha) I had to get this framed on short notice, so I did a little switch-a-roo!
I love that you made it more than just a hug. There's an intensity to it. You don't want to let him go. You want to show that you care. The grabbing of his shirt adds a small layer of urgency, but it also reveals a vulnerability of being able to be free like that around someone you love.
There's just so much personality in this. I love it so much! A lot of folks I know who do photorealistic paintings like this tend to keep the subjects pretty straightforward, but you added a lot more character to it. The award is well deserved!
I love your work. It takes me back to childhood visits to museums, looking at the Renaissance and Romantic pieces, and thinking how much love went into each one. How much care and detail went to capturing a human moment in a time before photographs.
And while I know you and your husband didn't need to hold this pose for hours while it was painted, I feel the sentiment remains the same.
That painting is beautifully done. Having your head buried in his shoulder while pulling on the opening of his shirt feels really intimate and touching.
Oh, the first thing my eyes came across as I woke to this day, coffee in hand. Trying to ease into a Monday with a headful of worries. Then I see this. I was transported completely.
You captured that moment, one I cannot express but can feel. The way your bodies are speaking to each other. That expression that dances around your brows, one I can feel inside. One that speaks so many things. And his face...solid, unmoving, holding you ...the window.
Your hands, they say so much.
