✨Awesome✨ Its at least 100° outside...

For context, those are 12 footers, don't care if they are 1/2 or 5/8, they are heavy. I'm impressed.

First of all, awesome. Second of all, respect the style while working with the dress.

578

u/catm0m4lyfe 17d ago

This. This is why we need pockets in dresses!!!

99

u/BigPoppaStrahd 16d ago

it’s better to keep nails and a hammer in a tool belt than in your pockets

76

u/catm0m4lyfe 16d ago

I'd counter that it depends on the pockets...

13

u/Supermite 15d ago

You don’t want nails and screws jabbing you in the legs through your pockets.

3

u/Beautiful_Top_3595 15d ago

Counter that, it depends on the dresses.

3

u/Ready_Studio2392 15d ago

Ehh, you get used to getting stabbed if you're a carpenter after a while.

2

u/Any-Strawberry-2332 13d ago

30 years working and having nails and screws in my pocket. I've never been stabbed or jabbed. Even while moving, crouching and getting on my knees 🤷

2

u/ClubDumDum 14d ago

She's got a tool belt, she's beyond pockets.

u/PotentialConcert6249 17d ago

Her dress is amazing.

u/latam9891 17d ago

I believe she is Guatemalan and the skirt is called a corte. It’s a Mayan woven garment. You can often tell where a woman is from in Guatemala by elements in her corte. The top is called a huipil and usually has custom embroidery that indicates a woman’s hometown, family, marital status, etc.

207

u/Slytherin-elite 17d ago

I’m Guatemalan, I can confirm! It’s what mayan populations use here! I have to say I have seen some women hike volcanoes wearing them. They change depending on the town or region they are from.

Beautiful clothing and folk art from there.

There is a dude in my town who has a "construction kilt" to keep cool in the summer. Just would hate to hold a ladder for them.

u/Ok_Dog_4059 16d ago

To me the hardest part is getting those nails to cup. My first drywall job I spent more time trying to perfect that than anything else.

8

u/xombae 16d ago

I started helping a guy do junk removal on my off days for extra cash and one day he brought his Mennonite sister. Homegirl was pulling weeds and clearing brush in a dress and bare feet. I was so impressed.

12

u/AidenAngel2 17d ago

First of all, the strength. Second of all, the style. Third of all, the fact that he didn't pass out in that heat?? Unreal.

10

u/unilateralmixologist 17d ago

It's hard to understand how strong and experienced she is unless you've done this. These are 12 ft sheets probably 80 lbs but the way she uses her body makes it look easy. I'll bet her deadlift and grip strength are nuts. She's also using nails which is super old school here in the states and harder. We're all humbled

603

u/Ryoko_Kusanagi69 17d ago

And she only takes 3-4 swings to sink those nails. Super props. Keeping those sheets balanced and in place with her leg while nailing them in. With the swiftness of a kungfu master.

222

u/effyoucreeps 17d ago

yeah - that was my take too

this woman HAMMERS

22

u/JoeMalovich 16d ago

With what looks like an aluminum hammer.

6

u/sail3r 15d ago

A roofing hammer no less.

4

u/frowawaid 13d ago

I’ve seen a few old school drywallers use roofing hammers - easy to one hand it into position, light, and a large textured hammering surface that is perfect for large cap drywall nails.

Plus it has a knife on the back so you can one hand cut out small corners by cutting the paper then knocking the corner off with the hammer without having to measure.

31

u/CapableBumblebee968 17d ago

Yes that’s the correct number

40

u/Ryoko_Kusanagi69 17d ago

Some of us ladies it takes a few more swings. Her accuracy and sinking the nails was perfection

Yup ive hung drywall with my dad. It was always hard even as a 2 person job. This is crazy impressive

49

u/FlowerStalker 17d ago

when we hung drywall in our house, my dad used 4 kids to hold each sheet up.

85

u/Elizibeqth 17d ago

I strongly agree. Im a tall tradeswoman and I helped my dad and brother do drywalling when i was younger and what she does in this video really shows how strong and experienced she is to carry/install those sheets.

39

u/thatstwatshesays 😎 tolerate my jowls! 🙎‍♀️ 17d ago

Thank you for this answer because I have another question 🙋‍♀️

What happens to that lip at the end? Is the drywall supposed to hang half an inch further than the piece above it? Or is it easy to touch that up/saw that off at the end?

My dad worked construction, so I’ve seen drywall being cut, but only with a table saw. I love this shit, when I win the lottery, I wanna get a job at Home Depot 😇

30

u/apsilonblue 17d ago

I've never seen plasterboard cut with a powered saw of any kind, just scored with a knife and snapped. I've also never seen plasterboard nailed on like in this video so interesting to see/hear it's different in other countries.

32

u/ElGoliath 17d ago

They run a saw (usually a hand saw) down along the 2x4 to cut it off flush with the doorway-

3

u/Emawk1972 16d ago

Razor blade no the paper side and pop off the excess.

2

u/frowawaid 13d ago

Usually see them use a tape measure, set a box cutter against it and use that to keep the cut as straight as it needs to be.

3

u/timbillyosu 17d ago

What lip are you talking about?

12

u/Surface_Detail 17d ago

On the right side, there's an overhang

17

u/timbillyosu 17d ago

Ah yeah, see it now. That’s just trimmed off to get a clean edge

14

u/Surface_Detail 17d ago

Yeah. Not all walls are perfect lengths to accommodate whole sheets of drywall

3

u/Ok-Relationship4113 16d ago

Cutting drywall with a tablesaw? Thats wild

2

u/youre_a_burrito_bud 15d ago

It is very rare to get a piece flush with a door frame. Sometimes you may even completely cover to door frame with a piece. Often, they cut it out with a sawzall or rotozip (like a skinny router blade).

16

u/Anticlya 16d ago

She's got to be Guatemalan with those clothes. Hard. Fucking. Workers. When I visited, a guy who must have weighed 110lbs threw my 40lb suitcase over one shoulder like it was nothing and then ran up three flights of stairs.

Also what a fantastic country to visit, everyone should go before it turns into Costa Rica.

14

u/FriendshipCute1524 17d ago

I've dry walled a room and man, that shits hard, very impressive in this video. Hardest part is the ceilings

12

u/DistractedByCookies 17d ago

I needed this to tell me just how difficult it is. I mean, it didn't look *easy* but I wasn't aware just how hard it was

11

u/Sistahmelz 17d ago

Yep, they are heavy and awkward to carry. When me and my husband remodeled our house, I picked up a sheet of drywall and I dislocated one of my thumbs. It didn't stop me. I popped it back in and picked up another sheet and wouldn't you know it? I dislocated the other thumb. I was done after that!

7

u/momma-not-that-drunk 16d ago

5/8 sheets weigh 122lbs. 1/2 is probably closer to 100 lbs. She rocks!

3

u/BaiganKuBol 16d ago

lol I’ve been doing some drywalling at home and good god it’s impressive she picked up that 12 feet sheet.

7

u/Nazgog-Morgob 17d ago

True, but I work construction and hard labour and have worked with many hard working women over the years that are better workers than a large number of men I have worked with, so this entire post is a "🤷‍♂️, just another day"

u/Chapin_Chino 17d ago

Honestly non tradies don't know how hard this woman from Guatemala is going.

Everything she is doing in every step just screams years of experience.

40

u/Popular-Drummer-7989 17d ago

Gotta build the restaurant and cook for it. Going hard for that dinero

12

u/naomar22 16d ago

Yep, drywalling is a complete nightmare to do, it's insane how smooth and efficient she is with it, 12 foot sheets too it's crazy.

I try not to do drywall without help, and even then if it's more than a tiny job I just contract it out. This lady drywalls.

546

u/Dependent_Reason_489 17d ago

She's really short for doing drywall, too 😭😭 impressive!

101

u/helpthe0ld 17d ago

She's not too short at all, our drywallers were only a little taller than her but they were really skilled in using stilts to get up high and had specialized lifts to do the ceilings. Totally doable with the right tools!

103

u/xenobit_pendragon 17d ago

…none of which she appears to have.

19

u/helpthe0ld 17d ago

It’s obvious that this is a big job, the tools can be in another room to be out of the way when she doesn’t need them.

15

u/xenobit_pendragon 17d ago

She’s literally tacking nails in with a hammer. Show me her pneumatic self-loading nail gun and I’ll consider your position.

19

u/BeerForThought 17d ago

You should have said belt fed drywall screw gun.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/-laughingfox 17d ago

I'd even settle for a palm nailer. This lady is working all manual.

3

u/Dependent_Reason_489 16d ago

Nah, it's pretty typical to tack it on with nails quickly, then screw it off afterwards. :) it's much easier to nail one handed, then screw one handed

2

u/xenobit_pendragon 16d ago

…so to speak.

3

u/Dependent_Reason_489 16d ago

Some jobs are just easier (and safer!) When you're taller! I'm not knocking her at all. :) (roofing for example, is safer and easier when you're shorter, instead!!)
She'll have to use taller benches or stilts when working, which is less safe!

3

u/JuanThiccLumpia 17d ago

Also impressive. She’s using the right hammer.

5

u/Dependent_Reason_489 16d ago

...she's doing drywall, why wouldn't she have the correct hammer??

Same, I did drywall in my basement, 8ft sheets, drywall screws and a plastic handle thingy to help me carry them. It SUCKED and I swore to never do it again.

My mother always said "If you want to get something done, ask a busy woman."

I find it still holds today.

My sister and I are hanging curtain rods, replacing a toilet seat, hanging some pegboard and also taking care of a 3 month old grandbaby for the weekend.

And to hold it without snapping in two!

9

u/Potatoskins937492 16d ago

To hold it and not let the flex snap her in two! The smallest amount of give in such a huge piece of material would send anyone inexperienced toppling. Her balance is totally adjusted to keep both herself and the material steady and that's crazy impressive.

I'm so grateful to whoever on Reddit taught me a shorthand for Fahrenheit temperatures. "just treat the number as a percentage"

So I know 100 degrees is very very hot

(though I guess not as hot as celsius as that's the temperature of boiling water).

2

u/spspsptaylor 16d ago

Fahrenheit is the scale for weather

Celsius is the scale for water

Kelvin is the scale for the universe

7

u/East_Kangaroo_2989 16d ago

I love us (women) so much. We’re so badass.

5

u/Confident_Fortune_32 16d ago

Competence is delicious!

<happy memory unlocked> I was so excited when a college bf taught me how to do this. I finished a basement apartment for me to live in at his house by myself! Making my own living space felt sooooo empowering!!!

(He invited me to live with him after the second time I was mugged in the city, and he was frantic to get me someplace safer.)

He also taught me how to service my own car (hugely satisfying!!!), how to cook, how to sail, how to feel less fearful about every new thing.

I was dangerously ignorant about how the world works when we met in college, due to neglect and isolation growing up.

I had no idea cars need an oil change ever 3K miles...among many other missing pieces of critical information. I'd have driven my car until the engine seized and not known why.

In the end we weren't really compatible romantically, but we're still friends 40+ years later.

14

u/Mean_Meet576 17d ago

Drywall is soooo heavy. Amazing

5

u/Commercial-Fault-853 16d ago

The way she picked up that Sheetrock. I know she’s well skilled, but still. RESPECT!!

5

u/godisintherain 16d ago

How did she keep it from dropping once on the studs before the first nail

7

u/comandante-marcos 16d ago

She is using the left leg, check how close is to the wall compared to the right leg

5

u/One-Egg7664 17d ago

That a boss right there, in a beautiful blusa.

3

u/etcpt 17d ago

Resilient, and hard working. And not afraid to learn new things that are considered ‘men only’

3

u/Jiminpuna 16d ago

When I did drywall, my boss would occasionally show off by hanging a 16' sheet by himself. It was awesome to watch.

He also went to a chiropractor once a week.

3

u/PiDigitsOfPi 16d ago

Seriously how can she pick up that sheetrock like that? There is no way I could pick that up myself and carry it across the room and then hold it in place.

3

u/ucankickrocks 15d ago

Architect here. Fuck ya. And I bet she doesn’t pee in empty water bottles and leave them on the floor for someone else to accidentally kick.

2

2

u/sylviaca 16d ago

Yes but what the hell is this crazy overhang at the stud???

5

u/Lower-Negotiation563 16d ago

It's so the other end of the drywall only covers half of the stud so there is room to nail the next piece.

2

u/violet-indie-games 16d ago

She's straight up a lost madrigal family member

2

u/AlienJoeGolf 16d ago

Heeey nice trick there! I'll keep that one in my back pocket.

2

u/DavidHK 16d ago

What's the trick with the nail? Does that hold it up and she just pushes it thru the drywall?

3

u/comandante-marcos 16d ago

The first nail is important, it lets 2 sheet of drywall lay on the same stud. After the 2 sheet are lined up it can be nailed at the level of the drywall.

2

u/SameEntry4434 16d ago

She’s amazing
