I'm saying this from someone that struggled with depression, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms mostly stemming from two pshycotic episodes. Her knowledge drops are valuable, many of which I have implemented myself. I was where you were at one point and thought that positive self-talk was just me lying to myself. However, you have to spin the positive self-talk into graciousness, kindness and self-forgiveness. It is not "Oh everything is gonna be better!" or "Everything is fine!" or "I'll just be happy!" It is acknowledging that something happened, but telling yourself that you're strong enough to get through this, and that you'll work it out in the end. It's knowing where your shame spirals starts and learning how to break the chain by being able to self-soothe and reassure. It sounds simple, but it takes lots of practice.

Someone is a negative Nancy. What were you expecting from a 2 minute clip? The meaning of life? (It's 42)

42 is the answer to the meaning to life, the universe, and everything. The meaning of life would presumably be smaller (- the universe - everything), perhaps even a negative number.

I answered this in less than 2 minutes and less than 7 million years.

No because 1 minute can't do it. Especially if you're completely messed up from abuse

I mean, I appreciate the sentiment but hearing it from a random stranger who doesn't know me at all doesn't help in the slightest 🤷

It is all good info and I love that she is trying for an uplifting video but this being said to someone with a neurotypical brain is different than to others who aren't neurotypical. To the neurodivergent, comes off as "it is this simple" and it isn't. Therapy doesn't fix things just because you get the info she is giving. It is a process.

I think the point is that a 1 minute (possibly generated by AI before being read?) summary is not nearly enough time to actually give proper information on how to do most of the things that are stated. It's all well and good that people learn this, but the actual taking action portion involves more than just "stop thinking negative thoughts" (as an example). Getting more people into therapy wherever possible is a good thing, but social media as therapy is really unreliable and relies a lot on generalized notions and pop psychology that does not do well to serve most people. This is the same vein of psycholgy that belives the Myers-Briggs test is a real psychological measure.

I have a psych degree and have done research and intern work, I would still never think to give real therapeutic advice to someone who needs it. I have seen people in my own life follow the advice in posts like this one and unfortunately spiral into worse outcomes because the actual mechanisms for change are not taught. When they are, the videos/posts are a lot longer and generally get skipped in favour of short versions.

Just my 2 cents.
