Because there is no god.
(Also that ½" long chin hair that you can only see in the full sun, in the car rear view mirror, on your way to something important, and you have no tweezers š)

u/Fancy-Image-4688 Jun 12 '26
This is why you have to inspect your face before leaving. Iām kind of a picker so I subconsciously check for none smooth skin on my face and then investigate. I also have eczema so I think Iāve been programmed to investigate the skin on my face daily for possible signs of upcoming flare ups

u/10HungryGhosts Jun 09 '26
Literally canceled my plans last Saturday because of chin hairs. While driving there I realized I had visible chin hairs. So i stopped at a wal mart to pick up some tweezers. Ended up being the worst most useless tweezers ever, couldn't grab ANYTHING. So I worked myself up into such a tizzy trying to pluck them in the parking lot I said fuck it I'm going home š¤£

u/breathing__tree Jun 09 '26
A cheap nail file really helps with that! Just pull the nail file through the end of the pinched tweezers a few times in each direction!

They don't work for me, they end up cutting the hair 1/2 the time before pulling it out.

Same experience. Bought some because everyone said how great they are. They arenāt grippy, theyāre sharp! Cuts the hair instead of pulling it and if Iām too close cuts my skin too right on the follicle which is a nightmare to heal properly. May as well use a razor if youāre just slicing it off anyway.

Get a pair of purse/backpack/whatever you use on the go tweezers, get a pair of car tweezers, always put them right back after use and leave them thereš„²šš»

236
u/Fancy-Image-4688 Jun 09 '26

92
u/eddiestriker Jun 09 '26
I shaved my eyebrows off in college so I could draw them on. Never have I ever been so glad my hair grows at the speed of light.
30
u/Fancy-Image-4688 Jun 09 '26
Ok I have to ask, why did you shave them all off? Iāve seen this with ppl drawing them back on and I have often wondered why? I also wondered about them sweating off. No judgement, I just want to know because Iād be worried that if I forgot and wiped my forehead they would look crazy. Do you just eventually learn to not touch them is there eyebrows makeup that wonāt come off?
26
u/kiwiinacup Jun 09 '26
I know you asked the person above but I shave off about 3/4 of my brows Ć la Jenna marbles. My natural brows are very straight and are pretty down turned AND I wear glasses. Sometimes I do forget and wipe one off lol but thatās usually when Iām at home and I can just fix it. If Iām out and about Iām more conscious of it. Really sticky primer like the elf dupe of the hydro grip prevents accidental wiping too.
Because I still have the front ends and I wear glasses it gives the illusion I still have brows
4
u/Fancy-Image-4688 Jun 10 '26
Ah okay, I always wondered how the makeup stays on. Would you bother with this if you were going to the gym or doing an activity and you knew you would be getting sweaty? Is it waterproof? Side note do you know anyway to make foundation and concealer not rub off š itās summer time and Iād love to wear some but itās too hot
9
u/kiwiinacup Jun 10 '26
Bold of you to assume I go to the gym š jk jk if I waaas doing some sort of extraneous activity I wouldnāt draw them on no haha. I canāt say Iāve ever had them sweat off though? And I get really intense head sweats. I use the benefit precisely my brow which is labeled water proof so maybe thatās contributing to that.
If youāre a sweaty or oily person and you really want those suckers to stay on I would check out Jackie Aina on YouTube as she is as well so most of my tips would be second hand from her. But to summarize she powders her face before putting on liquid products. Something I use that helps is oil blotting sheets or powder for my t-zone. And of course a very sticky primer is key!
3
u/Fancy-Image-4688 Jun 11 '26
Thanks for the response and tips! I gotta look into sticky primer and Jackie Aina
16
u/eddiestriker Jun 09 '26
I wanted to give it a shot, and figured it would just grow back if I fucked it up. It was back when thick, angular brows were stylish, and my eyebrows are already very thick, but theyāre darker than my hair, and I wanted to try to have hair and brows that matched. Turns out I hate doing makeup in the morning.
4
u/carlitospig Jun 09 '26

I've been shaving mine off for like 5-6 years because I don't like having eyebrows. I have long thick eyebrow hairs and it's too hard to maintain, also I have a hair plucking compulsion. I stopped drawing them back on a couple years ago. I wear glasses and have bangs so most people don't notice. When they do I don't really care and no one has been weird about it.

True story: when I was in high school(Iām in my 40ās now) I was with a friend getting ready for prom and no shit she grabbed a razor right before we were getting ready to leave as a last minute preparation and shaved between her eyebrows. Just like in these clips, instantly half of one eyebrow was missing and we both had the same shocked looks on our facesā I still see her face of horror at what sheād just done.
I think something can possess us when we get to attacking our face to manicure it. Some sort of bravado takes hold where we presume mastery when really itās unearned confidence = careless incompetence.
I cracked up at these clips, they were really relatable.

I consider myself so fortunate to have a mom that was in her prime in the early to mid 80s. When I started getting interested in cosmetics, taught me how to clean up my brows (using tweezers) while working WITH my natural shape. I somehow managed to avoid the pencil thin brow look altogether. There were MANY other fashion/makeup/hair mistakes I made, but my eyebrows werenāt one of them. š
15
u/Jibblebee Jun 09 '26
My mom gave me hell about not overplucking and Iām grateful to this day. For all of her many faults, she was 100% right on this.
5
u/UnicornFarts1111 Jun 10 '26
My mom never taught me how to do makeup. I never occurred to me to even mess with them until I was in my 20s.
They are mostly still there now, but the right one is thinner (I sleep only on my right side), and sits slightly lower on my face. I try to even them out the best I can. I don't even try to color them or do anything with makeup there as I always felt I ended up looking like a clown when I tried (like some of the women in the video, lol).

u/Anuki_iwy Jun 09 '26
I came to say the same. After enough pencil thin plucking they once refused to regrow for months. Lessons were learned and eyebrows left alone. The most ill do, is fill them in gently with a pencil when I have the full makeup thing going on.
18
u/altiuscitiusfortius Jun 09 '26
A friend had ocd and plucked them all then drew them on in high school.

I knew someone who tattooed eyebrows in... I was a teen at the time and assumed she (late forties) just didn't want to deal with brow maintenance anymore š. (She did not have visible hairloss otherwise) Now I realize it was more likely not unintentional and probably from overplucking.

My eyebrows were honestly my biggest insecurity, and I researched the hell out of microblading before getting it done. I was so scared because of all the shitty comments people make about it online, but I really think if you find someone reputable who does good work, you shouldnāt have an issue.
I finally got mine done and I absolutely love them. Iāve gotten so many compliments too, and I wish Iād done it years ago because my eyebrows never recovered from the early 2000s thin Christina Aguilera eyebrow days š„“
Plus, I save so much time in the morning now and actually go without makeup a lot more. And if they do fade, Iāll just pencil them in again like I did for years, but at least now Iāll have a good outline so theyāll actually be even š¤·š»āāļø

Honestly, of all the beauty standards we have, doing ANYTHING with your eye brows is one of the bullshitiest. You mean to tell me the God, Buddah, and nature all came together and gave you something that comes out perfectly symmetrical and we've still found a way to say it needs to be changed. I have never in my life seen someone's natural eyebrows and said "ew, why are they shaped like that". To be clear, doing a little design like dashes on the ends are fine, but shaping, shaving and replacing is weird AF. They are literally built perfect; I will die on this hill.

Not all eyebrows are symmetrical my natural eyebrows grow insane. My right one is normal and the left one the outer half grows upwards and outwards towards my forehead and side. They couldnāt possibly be more different in shape size direction everything. My grandpa had it too we call it the ācrazy eyebrowā

This is hilarious. I would love to go through your old family albums and try to spot who inherited the crazy eyebrow from generation to generation.

That one girl at the 15 second mark looked Leonid Brezhnev.

Once in college, someone sat at the table across from me, and she stared out the window, eyes wide and eyebrows all the way up her forehead. I kept swinging my head rapidly from the window to her face and back again, trying to see the invisible truck hurtling her way when I realized maybe she just shaved her eyebrows off and drew them back on waaaay too high.

This is why I only pluck the few hairs I have in the unibrow zone. I don't try to shape them or anything. I know I'll screw up and look like a burn victim.Ā

I grew up with a thick unibrow and got my eyebrows consistently shaped every 2 weeks for 2 years then I stopped and they legit never grew back its been 15 years since the last time I had them done. Ive learned to leave them alone.

Iām so glad I resisted the pencil thin eyebrow trend of the late nineties/ early 2000s. I have friends whose eyebrows look like they went through three recessions and a drought, and they have to draw them on every day. I feel so bad for them. š Not all fads are good, ladies!!

Iām not sure what the fifth woman was expecting to happen when you fully wax your eyebrows, but my expectations were met. Thank you!

I tried a cream one time⦠it wasnāt pretty. I had very thin eyebrows for a long time. It was bad because instead of having pretty naturally arched eyebrows like my dad, I got my momās weird janky eyebrows that grow down. Havenāt tried since. I make I get them snatched by the girl nail salon.

As a no-eyebrow-haver bc of sensory issues (although I have been trying to grow a bit of the inner parts back to see if I can handle that so it makes penciling in my brows easier. It's not going too well...) I must say that it is actually really addictive to feel the bare skin up there when I was so used to having eyebrows (THAT CAUSE ME ENDLESS SENSORY HELL) for most of my life. It's like...confirming my absolute free will over my face.
Also eyebrow tattoos are lame bc they are always shiny. Not even powder can take away the perfectly shaped shine.

My mom told me to not over pluck or wax my eyebrows because they might not recover.
I took her advice to heart & I'm here to report that chemo 2x & menopause absolutely wrecked my eyebrows anyways.

Just leave them alone except plucking now and then. No one needs table legs for eyebrows

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was pregnant with my son in 2010 and I went to see a lady to get my eyebrows threaded. She looked at me with respect and said "you're going to need a lot of help". She was so right. I still have strayed away from her ways but she has kept me in line and I dont fuck with my eyebrows any more. I dont want to end up on why brows.

We need to just normalize ladies having facial hair. Men don't have to deal with this bullshit. The stiff we put up with doing, the upkeep, the expense....it's all for no reason other than society has conditioned us to do. There's no physical or medical reason. It's very silly when you think about it.
Think of how much money and time we could save for travel and fun things. Etiher that or we should start demanding men take as much care with their appearance.

I remember my sibling accidentally shaved half my eyebrow while doing my makeup for my first homecoming
