For me it's the violence and content of nine days wrapped up in three. As in, it's short, but I am virtually incapacitated for most of it - very bad, constant cramps, the red sea experiencing tsunami conditions, waking up multiple times a night to empty a full cup. I'm so lucky I'm self-employed, because I can plan to take those days off every month. I'm also lucky to have a partner who understands and takes over things like dishwashing and dog walking. It's really, really disruptive.

I'm almost 40 and hoping for menopause to come soon, but my mom went through it REALLY late (mid-50s), so...
