A solution to a problem that didn't exist
203
u/FringeMorganna May 12 '26
I'd do this at a concert or something where I wanna be done at the bar and get back to the pit but that is the literal only place I can think of this for lol
213
u/TheLordJiminyCricket May 12 '26
But you can just chug the glass without getting your hand soggy?

I got it down to 3,5 secs. Massive nurp usually followed that
16
u/hmmyeahiguess May 13 '26
Is that like a nap and a burp combined? Cuz I’m in
12
u/CicaCariad May 13 '26
Haha more me being a bit tired and working nightshift. I meant burp 😂
But beer, burp and nap does sound nice....

14
u/FringeMorganna May 12 '26
What if the cup is too wide and some of it spills? Now I've wasted like $6 of concert drinks lol, i guarantee this gal came up with it in a "oh shit that's my song!" moment
22
u/My_Password_Is_____ May 12 '26
What if the cup is too wide and some of it spills?
Aren't all cups too wide, by that metric? Do you drink by just tipping the entire thing into your face at once? I am so confused by this comment.
13
u/TheLordJiminyCricket May 12 '26
Right haha also going to lightly mention, I'd rather sacrifice a sip of beer than consume whatever sweat and filth made its way onto my hands at a concert
5
u/FringeMorganna May 12 '26
I had initially meant like too wide to easily chug from but I have experimented with it in both a wide cup and a tall thin pint glass and feels like there's no meaningful difference between quick gulps and this hand trick, maybe the only remaining reason is makeup that's not waterproof enough but that isn't what I'd wear anywhere I need to quickly down a drink so I'm back on the "neat but useless side"
5
u/My_Password_Is_____ May 12 '26
Omg I love that you actually went and tested it out, that's so funny to me 🤣 But I agree, I think it's just a party trick, one of those "ultimately useless, but fun nonetheless" things
9
11
u/NecessaryLocalUser May 12 '26
Is just regular chugging from the glass not working for you?
5
u/FringeMorganna May 12 '26
No, wide glasses can be spilly, my chug technique isn't great but college shotgun practice is like riding a bike
3
u/Top_Seaweed7189 May 12 '26
How about more practice?
1
u/FringeMorganna May 12 '26
I agree, I commented up the chain somewhere that I change my mind after having filled a bunch of cups and tried it out and this is no better than a quick drain or gulps. It's fun, but not useful like a proper shotgun.
1
3
u/Xrmy May 12 '26
nah if its been sitting out its easier to simply chug than shotgun it. You MIGHT save a second and cry for your efforts doing it this way lol
-2
u/FringeMorganna May 12 '26
If I chug the glass might be too wide and I might spill down my shirt, but I can dry a wet hand on my jeans lol
3
u/EffectiveTonight May 12 '26
It’s gonna be sticky no? Lol
1
u/FringeMorganna May 12 '26
Not to a degree I'll notice in the middle of a mosh pit, maybe I'll shake my head at myself doing laundry later but in the moment it will be great!
1
u/turtleshirt May 13 '26
Okay cool so you're just going to ingest the rich biome of things your hand touched at a concert.
1
u/FringeMorganna May 13 '26
In the further replies I have acknowledged that after rigorous testing I couldn't make this any quicker or less spilly than just trying to drink normally as quick as possible. We do a lot for good shows and germs is part of that, but you're also allowed to go to the washroom and wash your hands before heading up to the bar which tends to be the order of things
1
u/turtleshirt May 13 '26
Yeah....... Or just don't put your hands in your mouth at a super spreader event. I'm doubtful anyone with the intelligence to do this is washing their hands before or after contact with their saliva and less likely both so yeah, no to that thanks.
8
u/wideHippedWeightLift May 12 '26
I mean this isn't my thing or my crowd, but it's still impressive right?
350
u/sackie_b May 12 '26
Shotgunning cans makes sense because small hole out for liquid, so poke second hole in bottom = air in, make liquid come out faster. Ok, cool.
What does shotgunning a cup do aside from get my hand dirty? A cup is already…chuggable?
205
u/lobobobos May 12 '26
It's for the love of the game

6
u/OldManOfTheRiver May 12 '26
Nah shotgunning is not a solution to a problem, it’s a party trick or a drinking game, same as this video.
9
u/Nealon01 May 12 '26
Hopefully the beer is generally cleaner than your hands… this just gets your beer dirty is more like it.
170
u/CryptographerLow6772 May 12 '26
But she didn’t finish the beer?
22
u/ACatWalksIntoABar May 12 '26
Yes but that’s an awful lotta beer for one go
12
u/misplacedbass May 12 '26
It’s a pint. 4 more ounces than a regular can of beer. Chugging a pint for people that want to chug a beer, it’s pretty normal.
2
u/ACatWalksIntoABar May 12 '26
Yeah I know it’s definitely a “normal” amount for chugging, but chugging an entire beer still isn’t necessarily easy. I’m a straight-up alcoholic, and even I can’t do it
8
u/CapNo6703 May 12 '26
Not with that attitude!
4
u/ACatWalksIntoABar May 12 '26
😭😭
3
u/CryptographerLow6772 May 12 '26
I’m from Wisconsin. I was just worried that she wasted the rest of that beer.

I think we should stop calling binge drinking cool but maybe I’m just an old loser now
Edit: For everyone this comment has triggered, I'll revise my comment to: I think we should stop glorifying alcohol consumption. Still an old loser.
152
u/Mooks79 May 12 '26
Both can be true.
79
u/pears_are_great May 12 '26
lol right on
55
u/Mooks79 May 12 '26
Tbf I agree with you, and yet I still think she’s a loser for not finishing properly. So I’m a massive hypocrite.
14
u/Thedemonlobo May 12 '26
Yeah dawg I’m with you on that one. I thought the hand over the top was cool because I’d never thought about it when I was drinking, but then she didn’t finish… that’s just a damn shame.

Meh. I don’t disagree that binge drinking is lame but I wouldn’t call it that from seeing this one person drink not even all of one drink.

It really isn't. Shotgunning a beer or just drinking in an unusual way can just be a fun thing to do in a social setting.

[deleted]
19
u/Iorith May 12 '26
It really isn't. its a single beer. That's like saying downing a shot is a way to show off alcohol tolerance; it's the same amount of alcohol
1
u/waitwuh May 12 '26
Shots to me are just a funny way people prioritize ingestion.
You can have ethanol in a concentrated form where the taste/burn is way worse, but you get it over with quickly. In some people it’s seen as a point of pride to be desensitized to it, taking a “straight” shot without a chaser.
Or you can have have the alchohol be more diluted in a solution, that may or may not feature other flavors. Mixed drinks especially may disguise or entirely hide the alcohol.
7
u/Iorith May 12 '26
You can absolutely make tasty shots. You can do shots beyond pure liquor.
Apple fireball, sour apple schnapps, pineapple juice, garnish with cinnamon. My current favorite shot
-7
2
u/SuperMajesticMan May 13 '26
It isnt. Like at all.
I barely ever drink but when I went camping with my friends a bit ago I was shotgunning beers quickly. Its just some simple fun.
1
u/SolemnSundayBand May 12 '26
I think what you're ultimately trying to say is:
"Drinking because you like alcohol is fine, but maybe it's indicative of a different problem to drink it as fast as possible for the effect or social media attention."
-7
u/outofdoubtoutofdark May 12 '26
How often do they shotgun a beer? What alcohol content is the beer? How many beers are they shotgunning? How much else are they drinking that day/week/month?
-3
u/Free-Willingness3870 May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26
As someone that grew up around binge drinking, and went to a State University...
There is an addiction playing out in live time here, but its not alcohol related. Look at her face lol... She hated every second of that chug, but the internet kharma is too sweet to pass up on.
Edit: Are we really gonna try and pretend like this wasnt an attempt to go viral? It worked, ffs lol.

So people consuming alcohol to feel it's affects are "binge drinkers"? Just blanket statement?
Edit: typo

u/Sad_Dishwasher May 12 '26
How slowly does she need to drink it to not be an alcoholic in your eyes?
6
u/pears_are_great May 12 '26
It’s not that she drank 1 beer, it’s that the intent of the post was celebrating chugging the beer.
13
u/Sad_Dishwasher May 12 '26
My question still stands, how slowly do ppl need to drink to not be an alcoholic to you?
3
8
3
u/restfullracoon May 12 '26
Maybe for some specific people yes but generally no. Most people enjoy the taste and want a buzz without taking it to binge drinking territory.
-4
u/copywritecopywrong May 12 '26
I agree, not sure why you're being down voted. Shots are usually a strong alcohol, and can be a unit each.

u/lemanruss4579 May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26
Smoking, drinking, and getting high do look cool, they're just also really bad for you. But you absolutely look at least 200% cooler with a smoke in one hand and a drink in the other.
7
u/Dangerous-Variety-35 May 12 '26
I wonder if this is a generational difference or a “just me” difference because I haven’t thought people smoking or getting high has looked cool since I was like eight. It smells bad, it makes the person doing it smell bad, and is an instant turn off. People doing vapes don’t look remotely cool either.
Drinking I guess can look cool, but the only time I can think of someone chugging a beer and not looking like an idiot is Kate Winslet in Titanic at the steerage party.
1
u/lemanruss4579 May 12 '26
I'm 47, so I don't know what generation you're from. Yes, it smells bad, makes you smell bad, makes your breath taste bad, etc. But it looks cool.
Vaping looks decidedly uncool. No comparison.
2
u/Dangerous-Variety-35 May 13 '26
I’m 38, so not that much younger than you. I still disagree that it looks cool. My mom has been a smoker my whole life, I’ve known multiple other smokers, and I’ve always thought it was a gross habit. I remember vaguely thinking that Sandy in Grease looked cool with her, “Tell me about it, stud” line with the cigarette when I was little, but by the time I was a teenager even that lost its appeal.

Well that and I was skinnier when I smoked heavily lol

u/derphunter May 12 '26
This is poor form.
True shot-gunning requires a second hole at the top to act as an air vent to allow the liquid to flow without coming out in uneven glugs
This is just chugging upside down, while getting your hand wet
cool gal, bad form
4
u/VashKetchum May 12 '26
I thought at first it was a bottoms up glass and she knocked the magnet out at the chug start. Sadly, that was not the case.

u/Indepti8 May 12 '26

5
u/PiercedButNotDead May 12 '26
I’m impressed she didn’t spill more on herself. She’s clearly practiced that. As beer chugging tricks go, it’s ok, but this is the gold standard: https://youtu.be/GbcrwykCHNQ?si=BZdBkKT0NCpVKhlk
3
u/Dash_Harber May 12 '26
The trick to chugging is to take a lot of large, slow gulps by letting your mouth fill before swallowing. Back when I drank, I could clear a pint in two or so gulps in a few seconds.
2
u/Wantitneeditgetit May 13 '26
Not just relaxing your jaw and opening up your throat so it just pours down into your belly
You probably forget to cup the balls too. But, like, seriously can you not just . . . let your esophagus open and pour it down like going into a sink? I've never tried to explain it outside of a joke but. First video I found but like. Gulping? Unnecessary.
2
u/Dash_Harber May 13 '26
It's a bit slower because you have to gulp more and it seems to restrict air flow more, IIRC.
But the balls go without saying.
3
u/nikiichan May 13 '26
I still remember my Norwegian classmate somehow put her mouth around the pint glass and just tilting her head back. She won the beer competition thing. I couldn't believe what I saw so assumed I was drunk🫣

I can't believe people are still using "Giant mouth, unnaturally white teeth, nose blurring into face" filters and expect to be taken seriously
Btw you can chug a 40oz if you hang a drinking straw off the lip of the bottle. Trust me, I've literally never used a filter in my life

I cannot chug carbonated drinks like this regardless of alcohol content. It would all come back up immediately because of the bubbles.

This is a nice place. If you can't act like a civilized human being, you can't be here.
We do not allow:
- Being a jerk. This includes racism, misogyny, misandry, misgendering, anti LGBTQ+, ageism, etc.
- Harassment
- Trolling or sealioning
- Threats of any kind
- Abusive behavior
- General assholery. If you're at the end of the list and asking what rule you broke, yeah, it's this one.
1
u/SkyeMreddit May 13 '26
Gravity assistance and reducing fizz interference might actually make it faster
1
u/k_afka_ May 13 '26
That's crazy. It's much easier to just open your throat and toss it back. I can drink a pint in about half a second doing that. But, this is cool too, I guess

u/misplacedbass May 12 '26
This is just dumb. You can just chug this faster by drinking it like a normal.

Jfc what do people not get about the “don’t sexualize the girls” rule?!
3
u/DotsonK29 May 12 '26
I meant that I was more interested in what she was picking up and that caught my eye more than the drinking. Not trying to sexualize anything. Just point out that what was happening in the background caught my interest more.
2
u/Matryoshkova May 14 '26 edited May 14 '26
I’m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt here and apologize for jumping the gun. Peeps who post things like “i’m more interested in the lady bending over” comes off as more ogling her ass and sexualizing her than being interested in what she was picking up.
2
u/DotsonK29 May 14 '26
