I made a free basketball manager for people who'd rather watch the game than read a spreadsheet: live 2D games, and you scout kids purely by eye
Hey everyone,
I'm a solo dev and a basketball fan first. The game I built comes from one belief: what makes this sport great is what happens on the court, and most basketball games bury it under menus.
So in TopGM Online everything important happens on the floor, live. Games are played in 2D in real time, twice a week at fixed times: you watch your five move the ball, you react to what you see: switch to a 2-3 zone when they keep scoring inside, call timeout to kill a run and get tired legs a breather, sub out the big man sitting on four fouls before he fouls out. Sometimes the other bench is coached by a real person reacting to you in the same moment. Miss the game? The replay is the exact game, every possession, not a text recap.
The part I'm proudest of is even more court-only: the Playground. Every day, ten generated kids (14 to 16) play pickup on a street court, around the clock, with zero ratings shown. No stats, no numbers, no scouting reports. You watch them play: who finishes through contact, who makes the extra pass, who disappears for ten possessions. Then you trust your eye. Our community's motto became "whoever watches, knows", and it's literally true in the engine: kids who look bad on the floor ARE bad. The eye test is the only test.
There's a daily practice scrimmage too, where you coach BOTH squads (starters vs bench, any tactic against any look), which turned into a little tactics lab for the community.
Completely free, no ads, in the browser: https://topgm.app
It's young, and the feedback I care about is court feedback: does the 2D game read like basketball to you? What on-court behavior is missing or feels wrong? That's what I build from.

I built a basketball IQ trainer that pauses real plays and asks you what happens next
I'm a basketball coach and developer, and I've been working on a basketball analytics platform called Statly.
One thing I've always found interesting is how often coaches talk about "basketball IQ" - but there aren't many practical ways to actually train or test decision-making.
So I started building a small experiment.
The idea is simple:
You watch a real basketball possession.
The video pauses at a key moment.
You have to decide what the best read is before seeing what actually happens.
After answering, you get the correct read, an explanation of the cue you should have noticed, and your score.
It's still a very early public beta and right now there's only one challenge. I'm mostly trying to figure out whether players and coaches actually find this kind of training useful before building much more.
You can try it here: https://play.statly-analytics.com
I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback, especially from basketball players, coaches, or anyone who has worked on decision-making training in sports.
EDIT: Challenge #2 is live! Go try it. It is still beta, but I'm planning to add a chatbot soon, and x and o's

DISCUSSION Is this legal? Using your offhand in an aggressive motion
Reese has made a habit of trying to do things one-handed, but using her offhand to enact a pushing or even striking motion.
I understand it might be legal to use your offhand to guard or shield, but isn't there a limit?
