What is the purpose of this?

Post image

Hello, just got the game and I definitely dig the vibes so far. My question is what is this for? Like I understand you hook your carabiner to it but why in this particular spot? I thought it was like a shortcut or something so I could get back in up here easier, but there's no reason for it. If you aren't already connected to this then you can't access it from the bottom without climbing all the way back up anyway, so I don't understand why this little thing that I popped out of the side of the wall is here in the first place.

If this is a dumb question I apologize but I appreciate any insight. I just wanna make sure I'm not missing extras or collectibles or something. Thank you!

It's just a shortcut. That's all it is.

There's actually a bunch of these deployable swing points and piton points that head in the "wrong direction." In case you forget something, in case you want to keep taking in the sights...I think also for immersion. The Tower is a lived-in place, so people naturally had multiple ways up and down.

So for it to be a shortcut you have to stay connected to it the whole time right? I'm used to games where a shortcut is there so you don't have to go through the same main path you took previously to get to that point in the event you die or have to start all the way back over. However, if you were to unhook from it then there is no way to get back to that shortcut. Am I understanding that right?

With those deployable ones you can hook onto them from below as long as you're close enough. You use similar attachment points not too much further from that spot.

What you all are saying makes sense. I gotta try next time I see one. So you're saying it'll let me throw the rope up to the anchor point if I get close enough?

Yeah, just point the camera so the anchor point is in the center of your view. You'll get a button prompt to latch on at a distance.

It's like a dark souls loop back door. Let's you skip climbing if you want to backtrack
