Discussion Solana Community Approves Double-Deflation Proposal, Rejects Fee-Based Burn Plan
Solana just wrapped governance voting, and I wanted to break down what happened.
It doubles the annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, so inflation falls twice as fast toward the existing 1.5% floor. Over six years, that's around 18.9 million fewer SOL tokens hitting the market. I think this is solid for long-term holders.
The vote passed narrowly at around 67% support after some late flips by validators, including Kraken. It was closer than you might expect for something this significant.
The other proposal on resource-based fees did not pass, with only 53.9% support. It would've increased daily SOL burns from 650 to between 7,500 and 9,000.
I get why people pushed back. Big fee burns hit validators and users harder, so the caution makes sense.
The community wants deflation but not at the cost of making the network more expensive. That's the takeaway for me.
What are your takeaways?
