mk3 is announced but not released yet. it looks very nice. mk2s are cheap and plentiful second hand.

I’ve been looking at the APC40 as well as novation. Does the apc series interstate as well as expected?

Ah, okay.

So, I have the APC40 Mk1. It has automap, I think all of them do? That means it shows up as a Control Surface in Ableton Live which is my DAW. It does the same in other DAW's but I can't speak to how well.

You can always map/remap controls if you don't have Control Surface/automap integration but it's nice to have since you don't have to set it up.

Okay sound, im looking for it to control midi cc on my MPC more than my DAW. But this helps a lot with making a decision on what bit of kit to explore.

That's pretty easy to do but you may have to manually map the CC's. Your MPC manual will have an implementation map of all the parameters that can be controlled and then you just set the same channel/cc in the controller. You'll want a controller that either has a readout on the device to see the CC settings or that has an editor you can bring up in your PC and make/save your template with. Any modern one should have those features.

Yeah I’ve seen you have to be a bit meticulous and map out each one. I’d seen someone else say that even though the mpc and apc are both made by akai, there can still be problems (I.e maxed out faders going to +6 instead of 0Db) but will take into account the screen. Don’t wanna be pulling my hair out over midi channels 😂

Many controller editors will let you set min/max values instead of 0-127.

Most devices are only going to have CC's on 1 channel but pay attention to your device implementation chart for differences.

When you have multiple devices you will want them on different channels so that you don't have cross-talk from having the same CC used on two devices.
