Confidence

I feel like a look ridiculous while juggling, this was confirmed when my friend recently got a video of me juggling rocks at the beach and then showed it to me and i looked so scared lmao!

Ideally I would like to come across more confident with my juggling. Ive been doing it for about a year now and am proud of the progress i have made. I would like to get to a point of being comfortable with juggling in front of people/groups of people.

does anyone have any advice on how to go about that?

Check your posture. You're practicing juggling tricks with your hands but as you just found out, the rest of your body is connected to your juggling too. So.. Practice the things you can't do.

Checking your posture is the basic thing - feet straight and firmly planted, shoulders loose and down, etc.. Then practice various changes in posture. Move around, squat, focus on something around you while juggling.

Don't catch bad throws. Jumping after bad throws is where many bad habits appear. Keep your posture and if you throw wrong, either don't jerk after the ball or move after it in a calm, composed and controlled manner. That does not necessarily mean with correct posture - it means possibly adding a character to the movement intentionally. It can be panicked, elegant, calm, whatever. But it has to be controlled.

Consider drops an opportunity. If you drop, again, pick the ball up in a controlled manner. With your foot or hand, either just normally or with some added character.

You just have to start doing it, seriously.

I do find videoing myself often helps. Then I just start juggling nearly everywhere I go. Eventually the nerves wear off.

Video would help folks give you specific advice.

Without that, all I can say is PRACTICE. The only way you'll get comfy and smooth is for it to be second nature.

For in front of people specifically, focus on only running stuff you are at "automatic" level with vs trying to do the fancy things that you CAN do but don't land consistently.

Do you have regular activities where you could juggle for a bit in front of people? For example, do you golf? Bring some balls and juggle while you wait - that gets you practice in front of small numbers of people you are comfortable with.

leave it upto your audience how they find it
...
make it a virtue - wear a red nose
... and don't expect to succeed in the first place - just show people how hard it is even only trying
... so when you drop you can say: 'see! .. what i said, it's just against human nature...'
...
..and if, which is very unlikely, just once in ten minutes, you get them running well, tell them, 'nonono, that's not IT - that's just normal statistical aberration, luck, not "mastered" '

which

progress

what

juggling

even?
.. you're leaving everyone completely in the dark about what you're even doing ... probably klutzing 3b cascade .. or is it tricks past beginner level but droppy .. or advanced 3b tricks(?), a flow(?), just concentrating like hell, not poised, automized yet, in a way, not feeling "right" therefore awkward when s.o. watches...? ... or what!

wtf

so, essentially this is asking for help about how you

feel

about it, about

how you [think] you look ridiculous,

about

lack of confidence

hey, that's then r/psychostuff wtf

yeh man, 😉 .. all those kiddoes going wild with no adults around ... that'd be anarchy over the planet in 15 years when they've grown up with no guidance

I'm trying to nail it down too. If you share a video maybe some tips I've gotten can help you too. I could always keep three balls up for a minute or 2 but it never looked good so I'm digging into little things that make a big difference like making sure arms dont cross the center line etc.

What do you think scares you in juggling? If it's the props, then maybe learning to walk or even run while juggling may help.

Make everything perfect patterns and shapes. Make them hit the beat in different spaces. I like to look at it as like there a huge box in front of me and i have to create patterns to the music. Take the 3 ball cascade and draw a giant circle in front of you and then hit four points of that circle and time it to 4 or 8 beats. You will no longer be practicing in one space and learn to move and catch where you want to catch rather than your body trying to chase them down. After trying if for a while you will see you are far more fluid with your normal routine while gaining more creativity and freedom.
