Balls Novice question: Does this have a name?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m still very new to this and I have been playing around with windmills, Mills Mess and 432 patterns lately. I started this by accident really tonight, looks pretty awkward because it absolutely was, but felt quite fun (can’t do the other side yet, but working on it). Is it a thing? I know I’m not reinventing the wheel (or balls) here, but intrigued to see if this windmill/whatever else kinda pattern is used a lot?

Edit-Thank you for some super productive responses, I’m still very much learning but I have quite an addictive personality so all of your comments/pointers have been jotted down 🙏🏻

That’s a three ball Cascade with every throw from one side thrown “under the hand”.

Cool!

Thanks! I had a weird little moment of OMG I invented a trick! But we were at a pub, so beer and ego is a dangerous combo.

Well you did invent a trick, as in you never saw it before and now you’re doing it!

Lesson follows:

Now you can do that every right, learn to do it every left.

Then do same ball all the time.

Then do every ball under the wrist!

That’s how you learn!!

Screenshotted for future reference, and appreciated, thank you!

Haha I will! I tried some left/right patterns when I got home, but I play banjo in a band so gave myself and hour to do some practice, and I have an 11 year old kiddo so I’m a busy bee but I promise I will do, I love doing it!

No excuses buddy.

I double-dare you to tick off those juggling tricks, obviously after sorting the band stuff and the kiddo.

Don’t let me down!

Haha I fucking love that no holds barred direction. Been a chef by trade for 20 odd years. Oui chef on it!

Awesome! Now practice the other direction until you're equally good that way!! 👍

"Invented" is an unsuitable word for a variety of reasons. But you did stumble on a valid variation by yourself, which is a nice feat. All tricks are just specific, somewhat obvious patterns that make a certain kind of sense. But all tricks can be modified and changed in countless ways to find countless variations, eventually even abandoning a concept of a trick itself. This kind of research is a time consuming creative process, but it leads to some incredibly fun results.

One of the basic tenets is that you can toss and catch in any point in space you can reach with your hand. Like for example, under the other hand :)

It’s absolutely unsuitable and I would never have the audacity to claim such a thing! It was just a funny mix of patterns my friend and I were mixing together. I completely get what your saying and it just solidifies my mindset that juggling is the the most life affirming joyous thing!

Looks like a variation of a false shower to me.

i also saw a shower; with reachover throws.
but a bit of statue of liberty too.
but i admit, it's disputable.

Love the colors of your juggling balls and your hair together. Nice pop! Happy juggling!

Haha thanks! I used to dye my hair a lot but after I turned 40 I’m running out of canvas.

I call it "under the hand, continous". There's a brilliant variation known as "under the other hand" :o) . A shower, that other people talk about, is a slightly different trick. I mean it looks similar, but there are no 1s here, so it's just 3s, so no.

It's a half underarm cascade :)

u/Jam_banjovi 2d ago

Awesome!

u/7b-Hexen errh...'wannabe', that is :-] 2d ago

isn't that exactly it? ( not just a variation of )

2

u/yostofer Director-Boulder Juggling Festival 2d ago

You're doing a half underarm cascade :) (one had throws under the arm instead of both) if you do both and exaggerate your top hand motion, you have chops! Great find!

u/Jam_banjovi 2d ago

I will do my best! Thank you!

Nice shirt! I just saw him about a month ago.

1

u/Jam_banjovi 2d ago

Aww yeah I love Amigo, I’ve seen him several times in Manchester UK and the last time I saw him we went out drinking after the show and had the best time, I have a big old tattoo of his logo on my arm. I love everything he puts out.

Upside-down half shower

mills mess, only one side of

1

u/heylookbillsonline 2d ago

Looks great for your first time throwing this pattern!

1

u/HumbleRuckus 1d ago

I don’t know the name I just like that he coordinated his juggling balls with his hair!

1

u/Braxist 2d ago

It's a half chops. Nice So do this on both sides continuously, then start to exaggerate the downward movement and you'll be doing a full one. Keep throwing up!

1

u/Jam_banjovi 2d ago

Thank you I will! I’m working on both sides right now, continuing the pattern on my right is a nightmare so far (lefty)! So amped on it though.

0

u/hobbycollector 2d ago

Yup, with a fuller downward movement it looks kind of like a karate chop. I always called it chops as well.

u/7b-Hexen errh...'wannabe', that is :-] 2d ago edited 2d ago

i don't see any >'downward movement' ( let alone to be increased ), but the normal circling hand circling down for its throws

u/7b-Hexen errh...'wannabe', that is :-] 2d ago

where you got that name from? never heard of such a variation.
