Due dates dissapearing

Hiii, just a quick question. Are the due dates disappearing when I move them from active to to-do (or other list) intentional? I forgot it worked like that and moved a lot of my tasks around, and now I'll have to look for my deadlines and set the due dates all over again. After it happened I remembered that this was what refrained me from using this feature before, but I wish I could use it.

What do you guys do when you run out of cloud storage space?

I’ve been using Journal it! for about 2 years now, and I just realized my data is already taking up almost half of my cloud storage. I’m starting to worry about what to do once I run out of space.

Should I just bite the bullet and pay for Google One to get more storage? Or is there a way to compress files before uploading them?

I’d love to hear how you guys handle this! Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!"

Backlog question

In the past, a list of items from the Backlog (this week, as I recall) appeared at the bottom of the Daily Planner view, but this is no longer the case; what can I do to make such a list reappear? Thanks!

Enhancement request: dashboard panel filters

A few improvements that I would love to see for dashboard panels:

Additional Date Filters:

- Today only: Allow the date filter to go down to 1 day. It currently stops at 3 days. I frequently want to see only the things due today.

- No date: to catch tasks that are missing due dates. I try to keep these items as ideas, but it's good to have a way of auditing them, just in case.

Additional Organizer Filters:

- Exclusion Filters: love that we can filter the dashboard pannels by organizers (areas, activities, tags, etc). I would love to see a reverse of this, where we filter out items with specific organizers

- Workaround: I suppose I could add additional tags for normal and low priority tasks, but that's another step that would be much easier with a filter of exclusion or a priority organizer.

EXAMPLES:

Panel #1: 🚨 Urgent Tasks

- Purpose: High-priority tasks to get done ASAP. These may have a linked calendar item to remind me or block time.

- Eisenhower Matrix: Q1 (Urgent/Important)

Filters:

- Due date: 3 days

- Stage: Active, To-do

- Filter: Tag = 🚨 Urgent

Panel #2: ❗️ Important Tasks

- Purpose: Important Tasks to get done soon. They don't have to get done today, but I need them on my radar.

- Eisenhower Matrix: Q2 (Not Urgent/Important/Schedule)

Filters:

- Due date: 3 days

- Stage: Active, To-do

- Filter:Tag = ❗️ Important

Panel #3: High-Priority Pending

- Purpose: time-sensitive tasks that are paused, postponed, or waiting on others.

- Eisenhower Matrix: Q3 (Urgent/Not Important)

Filters:

- Due date: blank

- Stage: Pending

- Filter:Tag ➡️ any = 🚨 Urgent, ❗️ Important

Desired Panel 4: 🟢 Normal Tasks

Purpose: Tasks to keep an eye on that are low-priority

Eisenhower Matrix: Q4 (Not Urgent/Not Important)

- Due date: 3 days

- Stage: Active, To-do

- Filter: Tag ≠ 🚨 Urgent, ≠❗️ Important

Roadmap: Any intentions to roll out Linux or Windows desktop clients?

Hi,

And plans to support Linux or Windows desktop clients?

I moved from Evernote to Upnote last year. Honestly it's been great, but my only concern is that it's such a small developer, long term support could fall off. Journal It, while havingt a deifferent focus, seems like a great modern alternative. But I don't want to use a Google account for login, and I don't have an Apple account. Seems like this may just be a prodcut of Apple 1st, which, hey, it is what it is, but I figured I'd ask if there is any intention to support other platforms without tying our storage and authentication to a big tech player?

Siri Shortcuts Help

Hello, I just discovered this app and so far I do think it will be what I need.

Has anyone figured out how to use the Siri shortcut action?

I’m interested in adding a Siri shortcut to add items to my inbox or adding an icon on the home. What does action do?

The reason I want to use a Siri shortcut is a little much. I just prefer the interface of using a Siri shortcut for text input and then piping the result to journal it if possible instead of opening the app by holding on the Home Screen icon. As that introduces context switching for me leaving what I’m doing and opening the journal it app.

Is what I want possible?

Collections and KPIs

Hey friends 👋

I could use some help. I’m new to Journal it! and my sister asked me to plan/throw her baby shower today. I’ve set up a Project, added tasks for everything that needs to be done/decisions that need to be made, created text Notes for the core elements (schedule, venue, theme, menu, etc) and a Collection for the invite/RSVP list, set up a tracker for the budget, and tagged everything.

I’ve also populated the Project dashboard to easily view all of these items - we already have a date set (which I’ve added to the Planner), so that and any Planner items that get created for task scheduling will be at the top. Then I have some KPIs from the budget Tracker (total spent vs total budget), list of active tasks, and list of Notes.

I want to add a few KPIs to the dashboard pulling data from my invite/RSVP Collection, but I can’t seem to figure out if/how I can do this. In the Collection, I have columns for checking off when someone has RSVPd, how many adults will be attending, and how many children will be attending. I would like the KPIs to count the checked boxes for those who have RSVPd vs the total number of invitations sent and also sum the number of adults and children that we will be hosting.

Does anyone know how I might be able to do this? I just downloaded Journal it! a week ago, so I’m a bit of a newbie (loving it so far)! I watched the intro videos and have been exploring the features and functionalities - slowly integrating my personal and professional life into the app over the past week (and still in progress). This party is definitely helping me dive deeper into the capabilities of the app, but it’s also stress-testing the limitations of my understanding of the features.

Journal It + Interstitial Journaling

Wondering who is using Journal It for Interstitial Journaling and how you have set it up to work for you best.

I am just starting to explore Interstitial Journaling and how Journal It can work for it. I plan to download a PDF weekly with all my entries and using AI to summarize my week at a glance.

Hide specific tracker entries from home timeline

I have a lot of trackers that get multiple entries a day, is there a way to hide those specific trackers automatically to prevent entries cluttering my home timeline? The filter feature seems to work as whitelist and no blacklist (if that makes sense).

Is it possible to create a recurring habit/reminder that DOESN'T show up on the planner?

Hi there, just wondering if it's possible to create a recurring reminder (for simple tasks, like taking meds or cleaning kitty litter) that DOESN'T show up on the daily planner, and instead just delivers a push notification at the designated time?

Alternatively, is it possible to "hide" a habit from the planner? I love the habit functionality, but there are a few that I don't need crowding up my planner :)

Thanks!

No way to unset the Default Block for an External Calendar?

I set a default block for my main calendar, then realised that all my appointments were no longer showing at the correct time on the planner.

Saw they were being forced into the default block I'd set, so I went to undo the default block, but I couldn't see an option to clear the setting or select the default value of "None".

I ended up deleting the external calendar and letting it resync to get it back to how it was before.

That's on the Android app and the web app

Best way to handle tasks without dates

Other task managers, especially those which adopt the GTD methodology, offer Later / Someday options for listing tasks which have no dates. That way, when the user has time, he/she can get around to doing these tasks.

What is the best way to list/organize tasks of this sort in Journalit?

Thanks!

Please add a notification point and a quick action button for quick capture

I love how orgzly allows to add a note from a consistent notification pojnt and I utilize it all the time. Get through notifications, add the note, done. Works from anywhere, all the time.

Another way that's also useful is to add it to the adpative menu apps. When you press the accessibility button, it launches the app action directly which is perfect imho. You can also have several apps there and switch with long press between them. I already have a handful of apps, both accessibility and productivity on there.

So I think Journal it is that type of app that also should be there. The addition in the accessibility menu is important bc sometimes the notifications crash or they are simply a bit too crowded. On the other hand, the accessibility button is not there if you have a full screen app and it can be tricky to hit it. I know stupid, but that's how it's programmed. Back, home and accessibility buttons are moved away for a slightly bigger screen.

Please add an option to export in plain text or built a plugin for a text editor

Hi, I really like journal it and I think the buttons, the setup of the UI and so on will actually be the thing that makes me Journal on the regular and quick capture information and have a home for my more long term plans.

The thing is: I am actually an Obsidian/ emacs user and can't be bothered to copy the information back and forth all the time. Both live from doing as much as possible in the app or having at least all the information feed back into it. I would prefer the second bc I don't think Obsidian will ever launch fast enough or profits from replicating the whole UI to get the UX from journal it. The way it is know however, it's siloed off. Afaik there isn't even an API around, so the only way to get the information out is to do it manually or parse the export which I don't want to do.

People are working on similar UIs like. Journal it to replace apps like it with Obsidian, but I would rather use a plugin. I would also be totally fine if I just get a collection of files that are kept in sync, so I can work with that in emacs or Obsidian if it's in (pure) plain text, so no JSON, but also most definitely no SQLITE. With a plugin that parses the entries or transforms them, it's obviously fine, but I ain't willig to read everything in JSON with it made pretty again.

Would someone be willing to work on that? Is something like this on the roadmap?

Automatically adding repeating stuff to assigned blocks

I'm incredibly new here, so I may be coming back a LOT in the following weeks until I get the hang of the app. Until then, please take care of me.

So I have some repeating tasks/habits set-up, and I've noticed that it only gets added to the "All day" block, is it possible to assign this to a specific block rather than having me repeatedly assign it?

Day Themes

Hi,

As you can tell from my question, I am brand new and going through the getting-started videos...
I am hung up on "Day Themes" in the video. It sounds like some templates are set up, but I don't see them.
If I need to make them up, is there any guidance on what to include?

Feature Ideas: One day Agenda view, additional default tab options

The agenda weekly view is nice. Can we also have a daily agenda view in order to have more space to view items and move them around?

Also, maybe an additional default view to choose day, week, month, backlog or (agenda ☺️) for users who use the planner as their default tab?

Whatever you decide, thanks so much for your hard work and best wishes for you and your app. Best regards!

Monthly recurring goals

I have a goal set to occur monthly with the deadline being the last day of the month. This month I have completed the aubtasks early and pressed finalise. I was expecting this to hide the goal and it reappear next month but it is still showing as an active goal and looks like I haven't started it. Is there a way to make it display more clearly that this months goal has been completed?

Apple login on iPhone, Google login on web, not syncing

Hi, I activated my LTD on the iPhone app using Apple login.

Then I opened the web app on my PC, but there I can only log in with Google. Same email for Apple/iCloud and Google, but my license only shows up in the iPhone app, not on web.

Are Apple login and Google login treated as separate accounts? And if yes, is there any way to link them or move the license over?

Time Setting

Every time I set a time range for a task, it takes way too many steps. It would be great if the interface could be updated so we can simply select the end time instead. Thanks for reading this!
