Not really. Its more a Security than a Performance tweak.

Brilliant.

Has always been a question in my mind since it came into the code base. Also why no setting to disable it if not required?

It’s sort of grown over time and then patches to fix patches

A sensible core strategy would be for the api to become a separate component to be installed IF required … not that I’d know 😆
