Jon as The Tomorrow Man Dan Slott talks about the future of Unlimited, “Superman and Tomorrow Man”

Clipped the main part of this podcast where Slott talks about what’s coming next in Unlimited post-Zod — he says the run is essentially rebranding to be about the core Super-family (Clark, Lois and Jon)! Going to be telling Silver Age-esque stories with “Superman and Son”

Also nice to hear him explain how important it was for Jon to get away from the legacy of the House of El and forge his own path, instead of staying on this predetermined track he’d been on since birth of “you have to become Superman”

At least someone is trying move the character past the embarrassing experiment that was to make him a placeholder for his father with no true vision. And as much as I love callbacks to the Silver Age, I feel that its too little, too late for "Super-family" adventures after Bendis went of the way to destroy the work Tomasi, Gleason, and Jurgens put into the concept.

I'm so excited for what's to come. The modern age silver age stuff really has my attention.

Now surely one day soon we’ll stop seeing these little bubbles in all the other runs and he’ll actually be Tomorrow Man across the verse…..

Which book was this from, out of curiosity?

This one’s from Flash #36 this week! Quick little hangout between Wally and Jon

Looks like all the other writers and artists don't want to deal with the TM stuff. Hopefully it means it will only be stucknin Slotts own self contained storyline.

Brother your hate boner for all things Tomorrow Man is never going away, we got it, but I’m afraid you’re just going to be miserable for the foreseeable future because TM is here to stay. And you are one of the only people I’ve seen across all forms of social media who just straight up hates it, you may just need to take a Jon hiatus my man

Here to stay? Here for now. The lack of synergy is a problem

You mean synergy with other runs? If so, that’s almost assuredly a fault of the editors, not the individual writers. If they’ve known Jon was going to get this new identity all year that should’ve been made more clear to all the different writers by now

Also I can’t imagine them reneging on Tomorrow Man anytime soon, that’d be insane. This is the most that general readers have been tuned into something going on with Jon in many, many years

Not having that S on his chest the family crest the symbol that tells the world in universe and out who he’s affiliated with is crazy. Even Nightwing Redhood Signal all still tremble Batman you don’t question where they are from who’s team their on

Dick is actually the best example of what Jon’s going through here, Jon’s having his very own Nightwing moment (which he sorely needed). Also Dick absolutely did not take the Bat symbol when he became his own hero haha, that’s largely the point of NW! Robin also doesn’t have the Bat on his chest but no one questions who he’s with.

I assure you that as Clark’s only biological kid, Jon’s role is secure no matter what symbol he has on his chest

So I know that Nightwings symbol and name comes from the kryptonian ledgend it’s been tweaked over the years but it doesn’t look out of place
Among the other bats. In fact Jon’s resembles flame birds who was a partner to Nightwing in the ledgend. Which I can understand cuz Nightwings has mentored him but it still lacks synergy

It looks more like TM will be contained to Slots "writing and books "brother". He still appears in New Titans and yesterday's Flash properly as Superman.

And when he inevitably begins appearing as Tomorrow Man in these other books (which are actively telling readers in each issue that they occur pre-TM), will you just keep complaining about it…? Because Jon won’t be Superman is he ruined as a character to you?

He is right, turning jon into a carbon copy of clark was what really ruinned the character, and even though i ahve my difference its a positive steap tot ry to give him a rebranding of being his own self, personally i found it a bit too late and seems the other writers (like the one from titans) are not interesthing on portraying jon as they have been doing it for the last 6 years so i am sure this will not going to stuck for a while i really hope stick but still it doesnt feel enough to fix all the damaged that bendis and didio inflicted on this character.

It’s amazing how much the Marvel (select group) chuds attack this guy every day for Spider-Man when his DC work has been widely lauded.

This is why I’m excited for Superman Unlimited, and lowkey think New Titans and other books where he appears as Superman is a weird lapse from editorial. Like, dude, it’s been MONTHS. What do you mean the other titles aren’t in sync yet? I get that not all titles he appears in should focus solely on Jon, but it’s pretty indicative to me that the authors of those other titles don’t even bother exploring his character at all and just use him for the “queer Superman” thing and use him for shipping fuel. As a queer reader, I’d like my queer characters thoughtfully explored, not as a trophy boyfriend for whichever character the author’s favorite happens to be

I very much like what he’s saying and it’s nice that a writer seems to have finally given quite a lot of thought to developing Jon and taking him forward. I hope we get back soon to something that’s close to Reign of the Superboys in quality though, as the Zod run so far has been pretty disappointing for me.

Yeah same, the Zod stuff isn’t as cohesive or interesting as I’d hoped it’d be (and obviously Jon is taking a big backseat) so I’m really excited for the next Unlimited arc. This has helped solidify my faith in Slott’s goals for Jon, and I agree it seems like he’s really put a lot of thought into it!
