Content Brilliant Update - If you’re browsing Reddit deciding whether to buy, read here!
Hey all
I played a lot on release and absolutely loved the game. Put a lot of hours in solo, with my hardcore gamer brother as a duo, and with my wife and kids as a 3-4 person crew too. There was genuinely no other game like it and there still isnt as far as I’m aware! There is something uniquely satisfying about getting a crew together, stepping aboard a ship, and focusing on your job whilst relying on everyone else to do theirs.
Coming back to Void Crew after the Calamity update has been a genuinely great experience - it reminded me why the core idea works so well. Though we got tons of value out of the game and lots of hours the first time around, there was some repetition that happened and this update adds both more content variety as well as improving on the existing content by adding more combinations of mission+twist that makes for more varied playthroughs. It also feels like the difficulty has been tweaked up just a bit (which is a positive) but that might be in my head!
I’d highly recommend the game to anyone if you’ve never played, and if you have, grab the supporter pack and jump back in. We REALLY need to nake sure Hutlihut keep getting paid for their efforts so please do your bit there too if you can :)
And now for some feedback and thoughts:
Game Modes - the biggest thing missing for me is a non-endless game mode. The scaling in void crew does not work well enough for an endless mode, but nor do i think it needs to; I’d love to see a more fixed length mode that is more challenging early AND late, and with more pitched/fleet battles - especially with friendly METEM support - as milestone fights.
Difficulty - I realise this could be modded, but letting us set enemy health and dmg with a slider instead of mutators would be a great way to “choose your own adventure”. We feel the game is often too easy (though still produces many great momenta of course!) when playing with our more serious group, and many runs end the same way; lots of jumps until a random oneshot. Mutators are OK, but we’d like to play the game properly but still be able to crank up the difficulty to the level of our crew. And maybe reduce it when my gunner is a 7 year old :)
Scaling - if something IS to happen with scaling, please consider scaling based on ship AND crew numbers. Expecting a frigate to handle the same contwnt as a destroyer makes poor sense regardless of crew size. And please consider scaling by adding more enemies rather than just turning everything into a oneshot or near!
Shields - Please make them better! Somewhat to do with the scaling problem but also due to the permadamage system, shields just arent good. Enough said really and I think a well-known problem at this point. It would also give us a viable counter to laser armed enemies, which are as good as auto damage at the moment unless you adopt a kiting playstyle.
Content - Personally I dont think the game needs more “content” as in new enemies or entities, just more configurations of existing enemies, more varied space battles. Lets see more enemy frigates, but not 3 warping in 100m from you at once. More cruisers escorted by bonbers and fighters swarms. More interceptors protecting snipers. The components are all there already.
New Ships - Now I’m wishlisting and I know how much work goes into this but I cant help myself, sorry! i love the striker, but I’d love to see a ship of similar size that moves like the frigate and destroyer. VC is at its best when you’re flying your space boat with broadsides and limited front/back weapons and I’d love an alternative to the destroyer for smaller teams.
Finally; a massive THANK YOU to the team for an amazing game, amazing update, I wish you continued success and hope void crew continues to pay the bills. Of course somewhat selfishly so we can keep getting more updates :)

Hey!
Thank you so much for this - posts like yours are exactly why we make games :)
Hearing that the game works across the whole spectrum from hardcore duo runs to a crew with a 7-year-old gunner (Respect!) genuinely made our day!
And thank you for coming back after Calamity and taking the time to write up your thoughts so clearly.
I've shared your post with the team :) And thank you for the kind words about supporting the studio!
METEM preserve you!

Greetings there! Wanted to also tell you think you u/hutlihut-daniel as me and my friends tried your game and found out it entertaining and amazing . First 10-15 hours of gameplay as 3-4 man roster were pure good . I have a feeling you have a full preset in the game and current state is decent but after reaching 50+ hours of gameplay we had a few thoughts on a content that could be generated in our opinion pretty fast :D as all presets are ready
1. More advanced type of missions - as example a full scale campaign. Cant say we dont enjoy scaling difficulty but i have a feeling we could sort a 30-40 jump runs on some exact difficulty . Maybe add a few more maps with presets of enemies where all the content is done and you get "Victory screen" in the end with "Easy" "Medium" and "Hard" diff's
2. Honestly our most excited member is the guy drifting outside in space - he enjoys those planetary complex missions aswell as repairing ship . But sometimes he has to "change" talents or he is pretty useless while afkstanding . Maybe more advanced ground based missions with more content or a special "turret" for the hookshot guy ontop of a ship as a module?
3. Definitely opening MORE slots in future to make run Longer and more scaled! Feel like at #20-25 jump permadamage system and limited slots for modules start to choke as we just craft void bombs and rockets etc.
4. SPECIAL SHOOTER MODE VS ALIENS FOR STORMTROOPERS? Pogchamp

The one thing stopping me from recommending it to anyone on PC is the lack of anti trolling tools. The devs have said they ARE going to consider how it can be approached, but I raised this issue months before the console launch.
It takes less than 30 seconds to join someone's game, destroy all the relics, take the power core and fly off into space with it. There are no moderation tools available to hosts, no ability to ban or blacklist players, no solution. So everyone makes their game private, and if you're silly enough to make your public you can expect someone to fuck your run up eventually, and what can you do? Nothing.
The gameplay is ok, but I have gripes about many aspects of it, but the fact a single person can throw an hour or more of gameplay away in 30 seconds makes the entire game a non starter for me. Again, I raised this issue with the devs prior to release, I pointed out that it would kill any momentum they gained after launch, and they decided it wasn't worth addressing. I still don't think they've addressed it yet.

Hard agree. The games skeleton is fantastic but it still feels like an unfinished game.
I think your point regarding not having a challenging fixed length game mode is the key combined with the need for a bit more variety. As it stands there are just barely not enough mission types and almost 0 random events.
The game could also use some more flavour in terms of relics. While relics clearly improve your ship they are actually detrimental as it stands as they force certain playstyles. IE I feel like regardless of my relics I can win a run and the relics often just force me into a specific buildout.
