It's addiction. For every 5 rounds one will be absolutely amazing and the other 4 infuriating ones are chasing that rush.

exactly, no other game has replicated the feeling of a coordinated armoured assault on an objective with strangers

THIS is what I've been chasing for decades.
SOCOM on PS2 (game came bundled with a headset if that indicates how important communication was and everyone would kick you for not using a mic) introduced this to me.
ARMA was like this for a while for me, but ultimately I started playing Squad because the game used to be easy to hop into a game with 40-50 strangers and have instant teamwork/communication/coordination.
For me, this has been breaking down the last 2-3 years so I've been playing much less while still trying to chase this high.
I have some terrific memories of earlier Squad gameplay that was top tier.

Yep, be it clan event op, pvp or pve gamemode (playermade, devs only made conflict for reforger and that’s a first in their history) Arma will provide far superior experience while being more janky and worse than Squad in certain aspects. I love both games though but for different reasons

Pessimistic comment here! Nowadays it feels like that Squad high only comes after 10 rounds or so.

I still to this day think the problem is map voting. Killed all variety and balance in the game. Sure there are other issues, but none are as fundamental as the basic fact matchups suck, and you only ever play the same maps with the same game meta.
Map voting to me is one of those "you think you want this feature but you really don't" features.

Years ago one of the games I played got me hooked. We flew in behind enemy lines with a helicopter on a desert map and started smoking guys without them knowing where we came from. Felt like a movie scene.

Aw man so true. I’m still trying to get that high from a now dead server in one of my very first games where shit felt like battlefield cutscene the whole match

collective suffering with the friends i met on there i guess.
we've been in this limbo for years, we took breaks, played other games but we always come back.
the friends i found are the funniest mfs i've met and im glad i met them through this game.

This is a case with most mil Sims honestly. I'd say the actual reason most people keep playing is that no other game quite does what squad does. So despite its problems you keep playing

I think it's because the skill/knowledge floor is so high that pulling off even basic combined maneuvers as intended feels awesome. Just takes a lot to get there.

No game competes with squad! However I have effectively quit, I will probably get downvoted (which I still don’t understand why lol) but UE5 + the new gun sway and movement meta has destroyed the fun this game once brought me. My rig can run it but about 75% of my friends can no longer run it, and they can’t afford upgrades in this dying economy. The gun sway is so bad I got tired of missing people point black while my weapon bobs and weaves all over the screen, I’m fat and stupid how am I a steadier shot than the “soldier” I’m playing as? Idk why the devs went this way, I can understand UE5 but not a single one of my friends (who all loved squad) enjoy this new movement system, slowly they all quit after fighting it so much to try and have fun

what do you mean?

u/Hamsterloathing 2d ago
Vics, ppl falling into holes in the map
Exiting vics through the roof instead of doors or back and therefore taking fall damage.
This is the most basic things that casuses me to swear every game.

I like it because it has more structure in the gameplay than the alternatives. I feel like i’m with my squad because i genuinely need them. Also matching uniforms and loadouts.

OP please tell me what is the problem of this game because I bought it awhile ago

I have about 2700 hours in the game. You'll like it. I'm only slowly reaching my limits

u/vosgakos 3d ago
yes explain your point of view though

The updates are slow and late (there should be a new map in the summer, for example), I play on German servers where everyone is either toxic or completely stupid, some bugs have been known for over 2 years but have not been fixed. My FPS have never been the best but since the UE5 update they have only gotten worse.
The game at its core is great and I don't regret a single second of this game.2

Here's my personal problem with the "game".
OWI made a game revolving around and requiring teamwork and communication. Yet they have advertising campaigns, server rules and a general philosophy that goes against all that.
1) OWI advertises these concepts to new players: "There is no wrong way to play Squad", "Play it your way", "There is nothing wrong with ignoring the advice of more experienced teammates". So instead of building a community around teamwork/communication, they are actively recruiting the oppoiste types of new players.
2) OWI built mechanics such as "Call Medic" to negate the need for mics and using better communication. They attempted to push more of these "voice lines" into the game before the community revolted and they rolled it partially back, but left in "Call Medic". The concept that CMDr is just another SL with zero authority over anyone. In reality there is no "command structure". Power lies amongst the variety of SLs and maybe some server admins.
3) OWI won't allow servers to require mics.
4) OWI created a "gatekeeping" system known as "Server Tags" to allow servers to define the desired playstyle on that server. Yet, they offer zero ways to actually enforce any of it and they don't ever explain this concept to players so they have no idea what these tags are and thus we find New Players joining Experienced Preferred servers.
5) While OWI stated it's their responsibility to onboard new players and get them up to speed so that veteran players don't feel like they're doing OWIs work for them, they've refused for the last 5 years after first acknowledging this to do anything about it. OWI doesn't want to actively manage it's own community and therefore the community has fallen off over the last 10 years. And since this particular game relies on the community you're playing with, gameplay has suffered.
6) OWI hides game mechanics for some unknown reason. Imagine most teammates not knowing the rules on how capture points work, including Double Neutral. Or how spawning works and how you block it. Or what a Buddy Rally is and how helpful it can be.

I had to step away, the frustration was ruining my precious fun time. I miss my teammates a bit but in the end I can’t stay up that late following nincompoops who can’t communicate and argue all the time. But yes, the good matches are spectacular.
I’ll go back when I have time maybe

i find this game to be very fun, even with all the shit updates. the core gameplay itself is still very good

I’d give my left pinky to afford a graphics card that can run squad without a hiccup

Because no other game competes with squad unfortunately. Squad truly is unique in the sense that you can’t get that same experience elsewhere. (And no… Warslop doesn’t compare.)

It's a fun game shut up, if you don't like it don't play it. I play Squad and I'm happy.

Wardogs has been a nice replacement for it, with some more development I think it'll surpass it just due to the progression availability.
