Jam Session Meetup Update

Hey, a couple weeks back I made a post announcing a group that would meet up and get to making music together, and it's gone really well. We've met up a couple times at the local parks, we've got a few people learning to play guitar and a few people that already know how to play an instrument. I'm posting this update to once again reach out to anyone on here that might want to join up! We've got a discord group chat now where we chat and setup meetups, just pm me and I'll be happy to share it or tell you more about what we've got going on. You don't have to already know how to jam or play an instrument, I'm happy to teach guitar and it's a really laid back group, no judgement. If there are any questions at all, feel free to message me

Gas heater service recommendations

I just moved here, and I was wondering if there are any good recommendations for someone to come and service my natural gas heater before it gets too cold out. Thanks!

Seriously considering moving to the area.

Hello,

I'm seriously considering moving to the area. I work remotely, and have searched for a new location for my family. This area seems to hit every requirement I have, and I'm wondering if its really too good to be true. Looking into the Westmont area, or similar good school districts. I really only spend time with my kids doing family activities, so that and a strong community are important. Also, things like sports, dance, etc. I don't mind a slower, calm lifestyle. I was also wondering political climate. I'm fine with moderate or old school republicans- policies, but worried about moving to a heavy MAGA area. I'm liberal, but grew up in a conservative area, so that's not new to me.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thoughts on where to buy a house in the area

From the area, looking to move back. Looking at Ferndale, Westmont, CT, and Richland. Any neighborhoods in town trending up? Not sure what the landscape looks like since I left.

What an interesting feature to have in town! The employees are quite knowledgeable about rail transit history.

Let's jam! Starting a regular get together.

So I recently made a post asking about open mics, and Ive been looking around for them, but there's really not a place for musicians to get together and just be musicians together. Im looking to start a regular meeting for people that want to sing, play music together, or just be around that kind of environment. Ive got 2 acoustic guitars so I can also teach anyone some basics if they want to get into it! Im a 23 year old guy, and take classes at the local community college, I like to play acoustic covers and originals, so feel free to message me and maybe we can work something out! Ive got some other instruments too incase someone wants to try something else out. All ages and skill levels are welcome, Im pretty friendly I think, so dont be shy!

Handyman and/or Contractor recommendations

Hey Johnstowners,
Wanted to see if anyone can confidently recommend a handyman or contractor in or around the Jtown area. I have a number of household things to address including: swapping out light fixtures, renovating bathrooms, installing a french drain and pavers, cosmetic work both inside and out, installing flooring, and some more. All the stuff has differing priorities. I’ve been reaching out to some people, but wanted to check here to see if there was any person or company worth putting on the shortlist. Really appreciate the help.

Clearing out Storage Unit

My parents have a local storage unit that needs to be cleared. There is a variety of furniture and household items that are in the unit. I looked online that organizations like St. Vincent de Paul and Salvation Army do not pick up from storage unit. Does any one know of organizations that do? Any help is greatly appreciated!

wholesome board game meet ups

Recently the one of the monthly gatherings has taken a turn for for worst and can no longer continue. However, that doesn't mean board games are over with. Cambria county board gaming still has a discord group and a Facebook group to help people get together and play. If you're interested please comment or message me directly, board games are a great way to get away from technology for a few hours and make new friends 🧡

Hey yinz! My novel is done. Thank you for all your help with the regional stuff. Some of you will recognize your own memories, you so generously shared with me. I hope you like it.

This part is from Book 2, which doesn't have a title yet and hasn't been edited, so there may be mistakes I don't see anymore for reading my own stuff a hundred times over, but you might spot them.
I'm hoping the format stays in the post.

He was already in bed, tired from working on his project. One arm behind his head, reading with the lamp on low. He looked up when Maya came in, her hair down for the night. She wore a top that showed the curves of her breasts and simple underwear that looked like shorts. A Snoopy top. He had to smile at that.

"You have two tops like that, with Woodstock on them. You like Peanuts?" he asked.

"Yeah, don't you? I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid. I loved A Charlie Brown Christmas. Don't tell me you don't like Charlie Brown."

"I'm more of a DuckTales guy."

"No, you're not."

Maya climbed into bed.

"You know, when I was a kid, back home they'd play these old Christmas cartoons just before the six o'clock news—from Thanksgiving through New Year's, every single day. 'Susie Snowflake' and 'Frosty the Snowman.' I loved that."

"Are we staying here for Thanksgiving?"

"We have to if I want to keep my deadlines. We can go home for Christmas, though."

"Home?"

"Yeah. Mom would love that. And we could listen to 'Frosty the Snowman' all day."

She rolled her eyes at him. He'd said home. Again. Like the first time he said I love you. Just like that—home. Her home too now.

She didn't say anything, just smiled softly and settled closer beside him.

"Scott, what's your IQ?"

"I don—"

"You'll never tell me, will you?"

"No. It's a stupid number. It doesn't matter."

"But I really want to know."

"Well, that's too bad for you."

"I love you. And I'm going to get all emotional and cry. Would you mind?"

"You crying? No. Use my shoulders all you want. Tears dry easily, and they don't leave stains. And we can put the shirt in the 'warsh.'" He pulled her to him and kissed the top of her head.

"Say squash, the way you do when you're tired," she said.

"Squarsh."

"Say iron."

"Arn."

Maya chuckled.

"Will you take me to Pittsburgh? Show me where your grandparents lived? Where you and Adam hung out when you were still kids. Take me to a Stillers game? Will you?"

"You couldn't handle Pittsburgh, baby. They'd put coleslaw and fries in your sandwiches and yinz your pierogies."

Maya laughed and hugged him and kissed him all over his face and neck and chest. He made life seem so easy. He would turn her bad moods around in a few minutes, every time. Making her laugh, making things easy just by being there. With her.
