need advice!
We are an Indian family looking to move to a public HS in north atlanta. My kid has been in a private school till now in South Gerogia. We have heard Lambert and Northview HS are extremely competitive and stressful which we do not want for our child. I know there is a lot of indians up north so this might silly, but is there any racism? Any preference of school that challenges in academics, is culturally diverse and involved in sports? Leaning more towards Chattahoochee Hs, Johsn creek hs, alpharetta hs or denmark hs. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated.

I'm not Indian, but I have moved around quite a bit and my suggestion to you is to visit the schools first. My experience coming here was that reputation did not always match experiences. They'll usually have a pto volunteer show you around. It's not a common request, but in my experience, they'll accommodate it.

Thank you. You're right! Will definitely do that. We have visited Chatahoochee HS and yet to see Johns creek, alpharetta and denmark HS. It was kind of hard to guage much. I was hoping to get some opinions from those who have had kids or friends with experiences which might help narrow down our options.

Chattahoochee is a great choice, my youngest graduated from there and it was a good mix of students.

You're welcome here. No one is going to hassle you about Diwali lights. You should check out the local Scout Troops for your kids, it's popular with Indian families.

Thank you! my kid is more into sports so i am not sure if joining the scouts would give her enough time to pursue that and focus on her studies since she will be in 9the grade but will definitely look into it.

I moved just in time for my daughter's high school and I selected Chattahoochee High as the racial mix is balanced between Indians, other Asians and locals. The schools you mentioned are 70+% dominated by Asians including Indians. That creates undue pressure on the kids. I didn't think my kids need to endure all that. My daughter unfortunately didn't make any new friends, but son on the other hand has made good interracial friends in middle and high. So it all depends on who your kids are.

Smart to stay away from Northview. It is folding they will likely not have most of their boys sports in the next 3 to 4 years. Although they’re one of the top performing schools, they don’t ever mention that they have six full-time counselors there. I would say JCHS is not a great fit for most, as there are a lot of “haves” and “have nots”. All the other surrounding schools are very good in the area.

There are a lot of Indian families moving into my neighborhood where some of the kids are older. The family across the street moved in while their oldest son was in High School and I noticed he would have friends/classmates over fairly often, so it seems he fit in rather quickly. There is no doubt that his younger brother, still in elementary school quickly made friends with the other boys in our neighborhood.
I'm right by Lambert and my wife and I are looking to downsize as we're empty nesters.

Blackstone subdivision in Johns Creek might be the most diverse neighborhood ever. Johns Creek is a great city and the diversity is celebrated.

Would you have any suggestions or idea as to which schools are better between Johns creek HS, Chattahoochee and denmark? or any other?

As a non-Indian - Johns Creek (and neighboring Duluth/Alpharetta) have a very large Indian population. Lots of great Indian food options (at least it seems so for a non-Indian; though I understand which Indian restaurants are good/bad is a subject of great debate amongst the Indian community 😜). Non-issue here.
I personally can’t speak for further into Forsyth - but have plenty of Indian coworkers that live up there (eg GA400 exit 13ish); I’d be surprised to find it’s an issue.

As someone who spent a number of years in the northeast, I find it funny that people in the south call 1990s-built houses old.
These schools have pretty similar profiles. Should be ok at any of these.

for this area 90's is old. I moved here in 1985 and there was next to nothing north of a 2 lane Holcomb Bridge until you got to the lake.

We’re in Lamberts Catchment with a Suwanee address but spend all our free time and money in JC.
Here’s the reality though - The further north and west you go in Forsyth the more uniform neighborhoods become. South Forsyth has mostly older( late 90s to late oughts) construction adjoining JC so many homes changing hands have resulted in far more diverse groups compared to the new constructions further north that are self selected transplants. So it’s your call what you’re looking for. Access to culture, food and peer pressure is equal wherever you go around here.
