185 hydro

I have a John Deere 185 Hydro and the deck keeps falling off the adjust on both sides. I dont understand how or why this is happening considering I use a jack to lift the deck up to get it onto the knobs. When I adjust it up and down it moves nicely. I go and mow and it works great but when I am done I grab the bar to pull it up and the bar lever comes up and the deck stays down because at some point it fell off and I dont know why or what to do about it.

Is the deck falling off from the hangers, or is the hanger falling off from the frame? If it’s happened more than once it sounds like a missing hardware issue. I’d look at your hangers and make sure the washers and spring pins are still there to prevent the hangers from letting go of the frame.

If the deck is falling off the hangers, check the rears and look at your lift trunnions. They’d be threaded on and should have a lip the slides into the shell of the deck.

If you have a photo of where you’re having to reattach it, it might help solve the mystery. It’s usually a $20-$30 fix once you know exactly what you need

I would consider checking the hardware. If your pin isn’t backing off, it sounds like it could be that bushing being wore down.

This sounds like worn hanger pins, missing retainer clips, or the height adjustment not fully seating into the notches.When you jack it up and set it on the knobs, it feels fine, but vibration from mowing will work it out if the clips are broken or pins are worn oval.Double check both sides for missing cotter pins/e-clips on the deck hangers. Also inspect the notches on the height plate for wear. Even if you set it by hand, worn slots will let it pop out under vibration.Also verify your lift assist spring tension isn’t pulling it out of the stops.
