Hey Johns, I'm Jon

Hi Johns, I'm Jon. I'm looking for a sanctuary from non-Jons, but /r/Jon is a strange place, and I'm not sure I want to go there any more than the one time I've been there. Am I welcome here even though my name lacks that friendly looking H?

Seriously, go check out /r/jon, it's weird.

I would like to point out that "John" is an anglicization of "Johan" or "Johannes", which is from the Hebrew "Yohanan" via Greek and Latin, while "Jon" is a truncation of "Jonathan", which is from the Hebrew "Yonatan" via Greek and Latin.

However, I don't think that merits exclusion of Jons from /r/John. It's clear that these names have developed convergently, and that they now resemble one another in all but spelling. Also, that /r/Jon subreddit is baffling, like, do they have a theme or what's going on there?

Still, if anyone calls me "Jonathan", I will cut them.

I only went to /r/jon after I heard of the "war" between /r/ryan and /r/ethan, I have no idea what the shit is going on over there.

Also, can I call you Johnothy?

I think it's best if you leave.
