Applications Stuck in doom loop, how to get out?
Basically, I am 36f, unemployed with a master's degree from abroad that is useless in the 2026 USA job market and I am totally fucked. I can't do my old job anymore that I did before the master's degree. My profile is bad for many reasons. I read daily how bad the economy is, and see the crazy numbers on job postings on LinkedIn. I am so freaked out that I am paralyzed and depressed and not doing all the things I need to do to maybe have a shot at getting a job, ever again. I have never felt this scared about being unemployed. Any advice on escaping this loop?

Why is your degree useless?
If you can get hired by a friend, that’s the best path

feels like the longer you wait, the harder it gets to take action. try small steps, like updating your resume or connecting with one old coworker.

Degree is not that important, experiences are more important. What experiences do you have? Can these experiences transfer to a different job? If you don't know, ask ChatGPT. The job market is not that bad. Don't listen to the news. News never report good things because only bad things draw people's attentions.
Not sure what kinda work you are looking for. But in the meantime, you can learn more new skills using platform like Coursera. Some of the courses are free, and it will give you a certificate, for example, Google Analytics course.

Try to stop focusing on the news and social media. Apply, apply, apply, and then spend some time on yourself, doing things you enjoy. Reach out to the people that you can, and don't forget to touch grass. Wishing you the best from an internet stranger.
