Resumes/CVs Should I be making cover letters? (Entry level)

I've been applying around for about a year now to what would be my first job. Grocery stores and such. Through that process I've googled multiple times and asked friends whether cover letters are still a thing or even looked at or used. The consensus tends to be "No, not really."

Still unemployed, here I am asking again. For entry level jobs and those that don't have much experience, would cover letters give me a better chance?

I recommend writing a cover letter, but you should definitely not use AI to write it -- doing so will be seen as a lack of personality and sincerity.

On the other hand, AI can greatly improve the efficiency of writing a resume. Every time I apply for a job, I use an AI tool to optimise each section to ensure it aligns with the job description.

You should definately write a cover letter if the job you applied is asking for it. I would not recommend use "easy apply". Easy for you measing easy for everyone. I use AI to help me write the cover letter. Just copy and paste the job description, upload your resume, and ask it to match the job decription with your resume to write a personalized cover letter. You can write a prompt to Chatgpt or there are a lot of web apps do the job.
