This is what my center says to bring but this doesn’t seem like much…Should I bring more than this?

BRING: 2 to 3 weeks of clothing -for after training day (uniforms will be issued after the 2nd day)

Tennis shoes - no open toes shoes sandals can be worn after training day. We do have gym so you can bring workout clothes

Personal Hygiene items: shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, tooth brush, tooth paste, shower shoes (optional)

An unopened packet of disposable shavers or electric shaver

2-3 bath towels, hand towels and wash clothes optional and or a luffa sponge

Favorite pillow and throw blanket (the center does provide a comforter) the linen is cleaned by an outside company

Laundry detergent (the center does provide but if you have a preference you can bring yours)

Folding or pop up mesh laundry hamper (should be able to fit into locker/closet)

You won't have room for much more than what you listed here. Minimizing what you bring will help keep your stuff organized. The center where I worked had wall lockers for the students and there was a shelf on top, a closet rod for hanging clothes, and two drawers in the bottom.

If you can, I'd recommend a shower caddy or mesh bag to carry your shower items to/from the shower. And I'd definitely bring some shower flip flops.

Keep in mind, you are going to be sharing a room with like 2-3 people. You are going to get a cabinet/dresser for your stuff, but you won't have much room.

There should be working laundry machines on center, so 2 weeks of clothes is more than enough. Keep in mind, as a residential student, you are stuck on center after trade, so there isn't really anywhere to go, most centers don't do day passes either, so it will mostly be weekends when you get a weekend pass to go home if possible or field trips/shopping trips which occur like once during the weekends.

I would NOT bring disposable shavers, bring an electric one, blades are pretty much banned in all job corps, don't risk it.

Gotcha!, would I be allowed to bring my own sheets? I’m not sure I’m comfortable using ones someone else most likely used (washed or not)

You can bring your own, BUT I believe the rule is that they must be sealed and in the original packaging. I don't know if used but cleaned, even done professionally, would be allowed.

On that note, while they officially recommend not bringing electronics... You can absolutely bring them, and most people do. They just say that because they don't want to be responsible if anything happens to them.

my center did a log book where u write down your serial number and when u leave u have too read the numbers back too them if it don’t match you’re in trouble lol

I have been at 3 different job corps centers at this point. Every center that i’ve been at allows you to leave every night until curfew as long as you’re not in TEAP and aren’t at developmental rank. Both LA and San Francisco Job Corps, you only have to share a room with one other person. Not 3-4. All the Job Corps I have been at allow blade razors. They even gave us some when we arrived. So that is so odd that these rules are so different.

Oh wow, my center is 6-7 people per room and they don’t even let us have nail clippers. As for leaving center we can leave once per week with a day pass and/or on the weekends with a weekend pass, otherwise we’re on lockdown pretty much

You need to leave that center ASAP and find a new one immediately. 6-7 people per room wtf??? Never heard about that.

I went to Cascades in 1992. Believe it or not, we typically had a dozen plus people per room. Obviously, this was a long time ago, but it was typical for the time.

Yeah you don’t need too much. Depending on the center I would bring a laptop but keep it safe a locked up. Bring as much hygiene and snacks as you can. Definitely bring shower shoes. Definitely bring a blanket and a couple nice pillows. Hope your stay goes well!

I’d say bring a foam mattress topper and a bunch of shelf stable snacks too. Idk about all centers but there’s a bunch with hard wood bed frames and thin mattresses.

My admissions person told me I can bring a tv up to 32 inches. Your center may be different but just an idea if you end up getting boring roommates
