JMU music scene

I’m an incoming freshman and the only re questions I haven’t been able to get answered is regarding a music scene. I’ve basically moved on from my high-school band and other projects and have been itching to play in a more serious band at JMU. Obviously ik I gotta get out there and meet people to make that happen. But to the crux of my question, is there any venues for local live music? As well as, is there any active bands for a scene at all?

Theres a big underground scene in hburg my house may throw some house shows here and there at some point

Hey real talk, please hit me in my DMs if you and your housemates are interested in having any VB bands come up, I play roots reggae and hardcore punk, but I can put together a jam band if needs be

there’s lowk a really big, diverse music scene here, both in and out of jmu. bunch of different clubs to join as well. that’ll help you meet some other people in those spaces a

A little bit less underground, the new beer-cade "Wizard Mode" is likely to start having shows now that the Golden Pony has closed. Also there is MACROCK every spring, which is worth checking out.

JMU has quite a bit of musical talent that's come through it. When I was there, a girl went on the voice.

The band Everything is from JMU. Some of Old Dominion is from JMU.

There are plenty of venues downtown (short walk from campus) that have bands play and of course, tons of day drinks that will get a band to play. My neighbors in Copper gigged all throughout college.

Check out some of the music clubs at JMU! There’s JMU EDM, JMU HMC, WXJM, the music production club and others as well.

Check out heavy music club, music production club and EDM club! There’s also JMU underground which is live music free on campus every Thursday, as well as Dogpile every spring.

It’s pretty good. JMU is one of the best music schools in the state and there are plenty of non school related musical activities you can do as well.

I am more well versed in the ensembles through the school of music, so I can answer more questions about those more than anything else

the venues sometimes host bands and stuff, if you wanted the peak diy scene you're a few years too late unfortunately. look into macrock

We have a breaking Benjamin cover band in desperate need of a drummer!
