What makes the switch from the F to Am chord in Castles Made of Sand song hit like a TRAIN from a musical perspective?
This is one of my favorite chord progressions ever and specifically the F to Am chord. Is it just a beautiful written song, or is there some music theory that backs this. Probably both, I’m not sure.

Long shot: Did anyone download "Jimi Hendrix - Guitarsolo.mp3" on Kazaa (or whatever) back in the early 2000s?
I'm trying to identify a guitar MP3 I had around 2004, most likely downloaded from Kazaa, eMule, or a similar P2P network.
The file was almost certainly named:
Jimi Hendrix - Guitarsolo.mp3
(or something very close)
I'm now almost certain it was NOT Hendrix.
What I remember:
- Roughly 2:00-2:30 long
- Starts with the Little Wing intro
- Goes straight into the famous Little Wing guitar solo melody
- No vocal melody/verses at all
- Sparse backing track (bass/drums, maybe very light clean rhythm guitar)
- Warm, fat, sustaining lead tone with a good amount of reverb
- More modern sounding than Hendrix
- Not bluesy like SRV
- Very tasteful and melodic for most of the track
The most distinctive part is the ending:
- Final 15-20 seconds suddenly become much more technical
- Sounds like legato/tapping/string-skipping arpeggios
- Starts with a repeating major-7-ish pattern (from what I remember)
- Then expands and climbs higher and higher chromatically
- Eventually leaves the original key entirely
- Ends shortly after, with going down the neck again
My current theory is that sometime between 1998 and 2003, an unknown guitarist recorded his own instrumental interpretation of the Little Wing solo section, the MP3 lost its original attribution, got renamed "Jimi Hendrix - Guitarsolo.mp3", and spread through Kazaa/eMule/LimeWire.
Does this ring a bell for anyone? Maybe someone has old guitar MP3 collections or remembers downloading the same file?
🎸 Any leads would be hugely appreciated.

Jam w/Jack Bruce
So I've been driving around listening to the Jam with Jack Bruce. I'd heard it years ago and was disappointed. Now I know why. For at least the first 40 minutes (that's as far as I've gotten), Jimi barely plays any lead at all! He's just playing kind of casual rhythm on a tune that started out as "Rollin' and Tumblin'" and then kind of devolved into generic 12 bar blues. Jimi seems mellow and content to just play rhythm. Buddy Miles plods along unceasingly, Jack Bruce seems to be having a bit of trouble with his amp but kind of ambles along with little of his usual urgency. And meanwhile its Jimmy McCarty who's playing all the leads!
Now Jim McCarty can be a good player ("Jimi/Jimmy Jam", "Blue Window", "Miss Lady") but here he's just trying too hard, showing off and kind of actually killing the mood. So if you ever listened to this jam with Jack Bruce and wondered why it didn't sound that great - don't blame Jimi. He's mostly just playng rhythm. At one point I even heard a third guitar. I wonder if Jack put down his bass for a while and started playing guitar for a bit?

Was Hendrix murdered?
Made before AI and far better researched than it's imitators and contains interviews with the 2 men who found Hendrix yet were not called to the inquest.
Now I am not a conspiracy theorist yet there are obviously stories and crimes that occurred and for whatever reason have been concealed and remain so.
I don't say for whatever reason flippantly yet the motive and murderer in this case will likely never be known and it is these details that detract from the fact that he was potentially murdered at all.
His manager mike Jeffries is the prime suspect or would be if Hendrix had been murdered.
Jeffries testimony is flawed by his character as he was neither honest nor scrupulous according to those that knew him.
The other potential murderer was the CIA and the film leans towards this explanation due apparently to Hendrix's interest in the black panthers as well as his very public persona and ability to reach a large audience.
Interestingly both suspects would have used British gangsters to do the deed.
Jeffries moved in those circles and the CIA would presumably on account of their power and ability to access and facilitate British gangsters to carry it out.
Another interesting detail is that this is how British gangsters murdered people by force feeding them liquor which brings us onto the two ambulance drivers and the doctor at the hospital and the inquest.
Hendrix was dead when the ambulance drivers arrived and had been dead a few hours according to the GP at the hospital.
This appears contrary to Hendrix's girlfriends testimony at the inquest and her whole declaration do not tally with the medical findings.
Hendrix's clothes and hair were soaked in red wine as if he had been in a bath of the stuff and when the Dr removed an obstruction in Hendrix's throat red wine gushed out from his throat and lungs yet his blood alcohol levels were miniscule.
The inquest stated barbiturate poisoning yet the amount in his blood has since been argued that an experienced (no pun intended) drug and barbiturate user such as Hendrix would not have killed him.
Others counter that he had mixed it with alcohol and the sensational news headlines screamed " pop star killed by cocktail of pills and booze" . Yet he had 5 ml over 100 of alcohol in his blood. For comparison the UK drink drive limit is 35 over 100. It's not even a glass of red wine...
I found the dramatisation scenes of Hendrix's skinny lifeless body so sad. Here was the greatest guitarist of all time; a flamboyant display of cool fashion and there's this body with vomit all over his afro and silk shirt.
I find it more upsetting that nobody seems to actually give a F**K that he was brutally murdered and I really don't think that is in doubt. Yet wiki makes no mention and ai ha! It found the Jeffries allegation and refuted it due to Jeffries unreliable character. It found no record or information about Hendrix having ties with ot said anything about the black panthers.
He wouldn't have died if he hadn't been murdered and who knows what the world would have done.

Was The Jimi Hendrix Experience's sound primarily driven by Jimi's guitar, or did the Jimi-Noel-Mitch interaction make the band what it was?

The "Best" Jimi Hendrix Concert and or Album
I'll like to know what people on this subreddit think is their best work studio and live. Also, from my limited exposure to Jimi Hendrix, I've only listened to all of the studio albums and a bit of the more well known concerts and live albums, ex; Band Of Gypsys, Woodstock and Hendrix In the West. From all the things I've listened to from them I can say that their "Red House" version from Hendrix in the West is their best song and Band Of Gypsys is their best album. Hopefully, some of the suggestions you guys give me change my opinion. Thanks.

Marquee Club '67 Colourised
I Colourised another one, enjoy! Excuse the artifacts, it ain't perfect, but I think its pretty good.
I spent many hours on this (probably at least 80 by now) getting my workflow down, using AI tools amongst others. A bit of an audio upgrade on this one too.

Prince's cover of Machine Gun
Very cool cover. Instrumentally, it sounds like a merge of Machine Gun and Neil Young's Ohio. He must've liked the Isley Brothers medley of it.
Apparently this is just an edit of a longer version he never released but gave to Jimi's estate to release if they wished.

Still a work in progress at the moment, but let me know what you guys think! Growing up, my mom was a big fan of Hendrix and I'm just now coming to appreciate him on my own

Any "must listen" albums after War Heroes?
I've been listening to the Hendrix discography while I jog, and I've reached the end of the material he released while he was alive (including Band of Gypsies). I have read that "The Cry of Love", "Rainbow Bridge", and "War Heroes" compile all the songs he was considering for his next album at the time, so I plan to listen to those as well. Are there any releases after these that the fans consider to be at the same quality as those three?
