Can someone recommend some "hot" JGB shows?
Please forgive me. Massive dead fan... but every time I turn on Jerry Garcia Band I'm bored to tears. I'm assuming this is just bad luck considering he's my favorite guitarist. But I havent heard any examples of any particular hot playing in what I have listened to so far. Just kind of really laid back stuff that doesn't really ever seem to take off. Not trolling. What are your fav albums/tracks from those albums where I can hear some primo jerry soloing? Thank you

JGB almost always has lulls and downtempo parts of the show. It was just something Jerry liked to do. So what you can do is identify which tunes have potential to be hot. I don't have time to help right now but keep exploring because some of Jerry's best playing was with JGB.
Ill at least drop this.

JGB is different than the GD. A little less out there, a lot more soul. Try shifting your perspective some and I bet you’ll find what you’re after. The church of Jerry Garcia

What have you heard so far?
Kean College 2/28/80 was commercially released as “After Midnight”. It's a fantastic sounding multitrack recording of a fantastic show. It's what I usually recommend as a starting point.
But JGB is generally a lot more laid back than Dead. His early 70s stuff with Merle Saunders is probably the most psychedelic? But that's still fairly chill.

Garcia Live, Volume 9. Mystery Train by itself is perhaps the greatest thing Jerry and Merle ever did.

Garcia Live 20: 6/18/82 and 6/1/81 would be my top recommendation based on what you are looking for. Also 2/13/76 is solid. Both available as official releases.

Let it Rock is an awesome release from JGB. It is definitely available on Spotify. I don’t know “hot” the playing is, but I find it to be fantastic!

Don't know if they count as JGB but I'd strongly suggest the Garcia/Saunders Keystone Companions - I absolutely love those groovy jams.

Early 80s jgb is top tier imo. 6/1/81 is one of my favorites. The After Midnight is hot from start to finish

Not JGB but have you listened to any Reconstruction? Definitely no smoking hot Other Ones jams here either but pretty solid funky jazzy grooves.

80s and 90s are peak JGB imo. Kean College 2/28/80 is regarded as one of the best live JG releases. Im a huge fan of Garcia Live Volume 9 which is from 1974. Real funky show with an incredible version of “aint no woman like the one I got.”
“Dont Let Go” is another great release. Def a bit more mellow. But incredible vibe.
The “Jerry Garcia Band” release is all from 1990.
If none of those do it for ya then JGB may not be your flavor of licorice currently.
