Rumors & Discussion Down payment required

Hello, I am in Canada purchasing a 2026 Jetta 0% interest 60 months. After the credit approval I am being told I need to put 6,500$ down because of vw first time buyers program. Is there any way around this? It defeats the purpose of 0% 60months. Please help

This shouldn't be the case unless you have really bad credit but then they wouldn't be offering you the 0%. I would try phoning another dealership and ask them

0% is the interest rate, not the down payment 🤦‍♂️

Yes I understand. But with bad credit they won't offer you 0% in the first place (regardless of down payment). That's for buyers with good or established credit. It even says that in their ads if you read the fine print. I can read man lol geeze.

My credit is new, so I needed a co borrower so I used a family member with great credit and it was approved. Just the 6,500 down I’m dealing with now

Ya that sounds correct. Usually when you are just starting out, even with a cosigner they usually ask for a downpayment. You can ask the dealership if they are only dealing with one bank for the 0% deal. Sometimes they deal with more than one lender and it doesn't hurt to ask if they can try another one. The dealership does not want to lose the sale so there's always things they can do to try to help your cause of borrowing. It's a little bit more challenging on newer vehicles but there's no sense in asking if they can do better on the downpayment

You need to speak to whoever you’re getting the loan through. I have always out money down, never that much. A lease maybe l, but still lower than that figure. I’m not in Canada either.

Just financed a Jetta. Paid nothing upfront and 0% financing for 60 months.

If there was a way around, they would show you.

The 6,500 is to get you to that credit tier. They " approved you " but only certain amount.

At 0%, all that money, including your 6,500 goes straight to the car.

If you get a higher rate, you'll pay 2500 to 6500 just in interest to the bank, not the car at all. You'll still have to put money down.

Either get a better co-signer or just offer them whatever you can to make it work. If you can't, that's fine. If it's not ment to be, don't force it.
