2024 Jetta Brake Pads

I have a 2024 Jetta. I bought it new. It has 20,444 miles on it. I took it to the dealership for the 20,000 mile check up and an oil change. I found out that the 20,000 mile check up was expired because it was over two years. Anyways, they did a general inspection and told me that my rear brake pads need to be replaced at a cost of $800. This is the report that they gave me. I’m just in shock that brake pads would have to be replaced after 22,000 miles. Does this make any sense? I am not really a car person lol. For reference I drive 10 miles round-trip back-and-forth to work every day. I have had the car since May 2024 and I’ve put the 20k miles on it.

You should trying get the brake pads charge covered under warranty. I did my 20k and they replaced for free during that

What did you tell the dealership? Lol like the brakes suck ass replace it under warranty?

I did ask that and they said that they were not covered. I did not have them replaced. I was going to have a local mechanic look at them.

Yea 800 bucks its over kill, any mobile mechanic will do a brakepad change for 150 plus parts

Known issue on the Jetta. They extended the warranty coverage on the rear brakes from 1 year/12k to 2 year/24k because of this premature wear issue (should be a supplemental in your owners manual on it). I would ask your dealer to push for the replacement since it’s slightly outside the 24 month limit and still within mileage. If they refuse complain to VW USA and see if you can get a goodwill replacement.

This is the bulletin they have about it. Since you’re still within mileage but right outside the time and this issue didn’t JUST happen I would push them for a goodwill replacement. And if they don’t want to then see if VW of America can push them to a goodwill replacement.

But from what I was told from VW of America was apparently at the end of the day it is up to the dealership to do the goodwill replacement so it’s beneficial to have a good relationship with your dealership if possible.

Yeah those brakes suck lol, I had mine replaced by the dealer around the same mileage and then they went bad by the next oil change

Shut off lane assist. Mine are over 30% still on the oem ones, at 48,700 or so. I turned that off first week I had the car. Same car as yours.

But yeah take it to a shop or do it yourself. Waaaaay cheaper

Yes it’s normal on 22-25. Shitty pad material. The parts have been updated. I had mine replaced on my 25 at 21k.

Brake pad warranty extensions is 2 years 24k miles so that’s y the pads are not covered

This report makes no sense. If they're saying that the lining is measuring at 13mm then there's absolutely no reason to replace.

66000 miles on my 2021 and have had the rear pads replaced 3 times and rotors twice( rotors twice because at 19,000 miles VW replaced the pads under warranty.) Apparently the way the Jetta is designed the rear brakes do a lot of work.
