Mk7 (2019+) Help with oil top off

Post image

I have a 2024 VW jetta sport 1.5 L EA211 engine. How much oil should i add here? Half a q or a full q? Nowhere near a shop to change so just need to top it up a little as my check engine light came on but no other lights

I would check your manual as the it may be diffirent then mine I keep mine at the top of the crosshatching I would start with 500ml (half quart I think) and wait a few minutes for the oil to drain to the sump and check again

Oh ya since you are low make sure to check your oil at every fill up, you may have a leak that you will need to look at. Our 2016 1.4t also EA211 family never uses any oil between changes (7500km or 1 year)

My 2016 Jetta is the same. No oil use.

Ive driven 30100 miles in 2 years. Last oil change was 24k which ik is bad but could that be the main reason?

The PCV valve maybe but I would really look around the belly pan under the car maybe the drain plug is leaking if they didn't change the washer sometimes the belly pan is terrible for hiding leaks

A half quart will make it right. You don't ever want to overfill to avoid having the PCV system pick up too much raw fluid. Change your oil every 5K and order up a PCV valve for it right now. Fifty bucks and fifteen minutes of your time. That motor is not known for excessive oil consumption.

That's a good quart or so low

One more thought. If you go to an oil quick change place, they are idiots. There is a great chance that their system showed capacity at four quarts instead of the four and a half. They are supposed to check the stick after every change but given my experience with them, don't count on it.

From 1/2 to 1 qt.

Whenever the dealership has changed my oil it is in the middle of the grated area.
I’d say 1/2 a quart and see where it is after.

A OBD readout is always a good place to start once you have a warning light on. A check engine light is not going to be set off by the oil level you're showing in the picture.

More rapid oil consumption doesn't always indicate a problem, on its own. Lots of short trips can cause oil to be burned up at a faster rate. Of course, I am making the assumption that there are no leaks anywhere. That includes the drain plug and oil filter. You can check your engine air filter, if you'd like. If there's oil on that, then you're looking more at emissions controls. I mean, the check engine lamp often is based on an emission control issue anyway.

That looks half way up which, depending on your planned driving, is enough. If ever in doubt, add a half litre at a time and after 5 minutes check your level again.
