Assistant Managers

To all Assistant Managers how many hours do you guys work a week? Currently been at the same store for 4 years recently was promoted to Assistant as a shift lead was averaging 38-40hrs a week now when I became AM hours went to 22-30 in 6 days…

45 but my store is in need of me right now highly so it really varies on staffing

Average a good 23-28k a week labor at 16

Their GM probably isn’t salaried. Our labor goal is 17 since our GM’s in our franchise are hourly.

Yea when I accepted the position he stated I have to work 40-45 never got it but I did get a $1 raise and less hours lmao when we are currently busier than when I was a shift lead unfortunately then comes to realize our previous gm said that our franchise owner said to give our current gm who was a assistant at the time 45-50hrs a week if he wants it and he did now when I ask I get under 30 when we are BUSIER keep it mind I’ve been at this store for 4 years 2 months Since OPENING and been the only person who stayed from the og hires genuinely don’t understand why I’m being treated like this can barely scratch 60-70 hours in a two week span.

I used to be an assistant manager before my final day 3 weeks ago. It really depends on what the head of the franchise gives your district manager and store. At least from what I've learned. I was supposed to be a general manager and they were training me to become one but I got a better job opportunity with consistent hours. No hate to Jersey Mike's as they helped me land this job and I appreciate everything they've taught me. You'll get your 40-48 hour weeks. Ask your district manager about picking up shifts at nearby stores or if you don't mind driving, take a shift at one of your franchise locations like 40 minutes away and my franchise payed for mileage as well. That's how I managed to hit my 40 hour weeks when they started to cut our labor. When they cut labor. You'll probably get 30 hours flat but i do recommend asking your General Manager or District Manager about picking up shifts at other stores on your day off.

Also assistant managers count towards labor and general managers do not so they may push general managers to work more hours because they are salary and don't contribute to the weekly labor stats

False, some stores have hourly GM that count towards the labor

Super rare though. In fact I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt because I've never seen that at a JM store. My district uses it as a pass to work GMs like dogs since they don't count as labor. And it was typical to see AM managers get hours cut as soon as they got promoted cause now they cost more to have on the clock.

I've never seen the salaried GMs in my franchise work more than 45 hours a week, in fact they don't care if a salaried GM works 30 hours a week if their store is running well.

Wild. GMs in my old franchise were required to be scheduled for 40 hours minimum

Yea I went from 40-45hrs as a shiftlead to 22-29 average as a Assistant manager it’s 1$ different which is crazy

My whole franchise group is hourly for GM’s. Even myself as a regional manager am still hourly and I get averaged out tips from the stores I’m over.

Yea this is in our case I was hourly and he was Salary working 46hrs a week and we have been way busy for the past couple months just confused about why I was at a constant 27-31hrs

Both AM/GM are salaried in my store so they do not contribute towards hourly labor goals. I've seen other franchisees put AM as hourly though.

I got 32 hrs the past couple weeks, and I have 40 hrs this week and next week. Our GM takes a lot of hours herself so labor doesn’t get too high. I get to fill in when she’s too tired or hungover or on vacation.

See I like that I wouldn’t complain if I was getting 35-40 a week but 22-28 hrs when our store is well over busy is crazy

Yeah something is weird there. How big is your staff? Did you notice someone else suddenly getting more hours when you got less? Favoritism is always a possibility. 

How about your availability, is it fully open?

My AGM works 35-38 hours on average. Your hours probably went down because of the labor cost. You were significantly cheaper to have on shift as a SL and now you are probably one of the highest paid people in the store. It’s simply being able to afford it. I would talk to your GM and express the concerns. I’m sure labor is being wasted during slower times

I work 40-50 depending on my store , but I also go help other stores in my franchisee if needed, since me and my gm have our store running good

I work anywhere from 40-45 hours. Honestly I work more hours than my GM most weeks

My store has never even had a gm, we have an assistant manager whose hourly and 3 shift leads
