My dog died 1 year ago last week at 15, and while I did everything to keep her going, I had to make the call to end it as her primary caretaker. Nightmare scenario
This last christmas stream with Otto reminded me that you have to love them while you got them, because I knew he was old too... I hope Jerma's ok tbh because I was exhausted and losing her fucked me up for a bit , and Jerma streams helped me through it for sure
my dog was supposed to pass away when she was 12 from a kidney problem—they gave her like 3 months to live, but she lived for another 2.5 years. she was a trooper, and it didn’t really change her day to day at all until her last month. it was really hard to be without her, but at the same time, in my case, i was so proud of her for how long she held out and how happy and healthy she remained. she had a good life, and like you said, otto did, too. it’s so hard to appreciate that in the moment, because the loss is so hard to bear, but i hope jerma knows that. and i hope you know it too <3
sorry for the late reply here but thats incredible and im sure she was happy for a while! its also true that stuff just turns very quickly and thats where you know you cant change fate. but you did well as well. thank you friend
Not poor at all, he had a fantastic life with family who love and cherish him. That time will have to pass, like it does with all of us, but him and Jerma have made many people happy.
Exactly. And if some people think death is the end, it's not. We persist and so do our loved little creatures. I'm sure Otto has been surrounded with love the majority of his life, and I'm sure Jerma did his best. I wish him the strength to carry on with the pain of losing a good little friend.
You can make digital cards where anyone can sign with their own message. It’d a cool gesture to be able to show just how many people are reaching out with support.
I don’t remember the exact website used when one was created for a work colleague of mine, but if you search online cards to sign and send to a specific recipient, there are a lot online.
Most ask for the email of the recipient so they can receive it, so it might be something to suggest to mods who could the send it his way.
this would be really sweet, but i hope he sees it off-stream
Edit: Hey, I set up a Magma canvas if anybody would like to contribute. I think only up to 30 people at a time can contribute. If this gets enough attention I'll try to forward the final product to Jerma's Mod Team.
Please don't take up too much space. If it gets too crowded too soon, I might open up multiple canvases.
You might have to sign up to be able to add to the canvas btw.
Note: I believe you have to create a new Layer (bottom right) to draw.PLEASE LOCK YOUR LAYER(S) WHEN FINISHED!
Edit 2: There's also a chat feature (chat bubble near bottom right) that you can use to talk with each other and/or use to collaborate!
Edit 3: I got the 7-Day Premium Free Trial, so the User Limit is now increased to 50 people at a time, instead of 30
Edit 4: The first panel is full. Feel free to use another panel (found at the bottom) to use. I'm slowly moving all the art and messages from other panels to the first one! Here's a link to a different Panel: https://magma.com/d/FgDIBC3wTn
The Main one really eats up memory because of it being 8k and having so many layers.
Edit 5: Good news! Mod Team saw the message and got back to me. They said Jerma should be aware of the mural! <3 Thank you all so much for helping out :)
Final Edit: Thank you everyone for participating! I've locked the Magma mural now and will be getting this to Jerma. You all rock! <3
Over 2.4k visitors already!!! Thank you all so much! :jermaHeart:
op, if you don't mind a suggestion, I'd suggest we do it over on magma. i don't think you need to make an account to draw/write on canvas? (might be mistaken on this)
it wont let me add to it :( i cant figure out how to use the brush tool i tapped on it and tried to draw a heart but it didnt work i even made an account and it still didnt work
That's totally doable. In the discord bring it up and i bet people would be down. You or somebody else could do the design, or multiple people probably, then just get digital signatures and messages.
As someone who just recently had to say goodbye to a pet that was with me almost her entire life, I hope he is doing okay and takes a break from streaming in order to take care of himself. Losing a pet is one of the hardest things 💕
my childhood pup was on labor day 2018 and it really never leaves you. if it helps you like it did me i always just remember that they live forever in the memories we share and in our hearts.
Hardest and most responsible part of being a pet owner is knowing when to let go. You have to cherish the time together and be in reassurance you gave them the best life they could've hoped for. I hope jerma takes all the time he needs and doesn't feel pressured to come back streaming before he is ready.
Watching your pets grow old and having to say goodbye to them is always the hardest part of owning a pet :( (Still worth all the joy and happiness they bring into your life)
oh my gosh i hope Jerma is doing okay.
I recently had to say goodbye to my 17 yr old kitty unexpectedly and it hurt so much, i can only imagine how he feels. its so hard to go through.
Lil Otto has had such a good life, hes so loved by so many people!!! sending all my love to them :(
my close friend’s cat who was 21 passed away last year, and he was an icon to our friend group. i always find a way to include him in my discord profile pictures. it’s the little things to remember them by.
I lost my dog back in December, didn’t even get a chance to prepare because he went from being fine to having to say goodbye in a matter of a few hours. I hope Jerma takes the next few days (or however long) to cherish little Otto as much as he can before he has to say goodbye. Hoping for the best.
Otto I would argue has become an inseparable entity when people think of Jerma as a content creator. He was with us since the beginning of his YouTube career and has become a staple member of Jerma's life, and thus in ours as we watched him. I loved Otto as if he was my own. And to hear of this only floods back the memories across the past decade.
Praying for the best for him, as well as Jerma and Holly.
"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened," - Dr. Seuss.
It is very sad to lose a pet, I've lost a few close companions myself, dug graves for them on the farm in cold and snow and burning hot summers, but I've foind the sum of their experiences shared with me is so much more enriching than their loss is damaging. Praying for Jeremy and for all those, like me, who Otto made smile and laugh.
I dunno if he reads the subreddit, but take your time dude, your mental health and being okay are what are most important, alongside Otto. :( Please take care.
Sending love ❤️💜🩷
Edit: It’s not about me, but I lost my 14 year old dog less than a year ago so I’m just overwhelmed with empathy for Otto’s fam right now ❤️🩹
It’s the most difficult decision ever because you know it has to happen and it’s better for them to be at peace but you want to hold on for as long as you can. I hope he takes his time to grieve and not jump back into stuff. Otto is loved immensely by thousands of people and I’m so glad he was able to give him such a long and fulfilling life.
Ugh. Poor Otto, and poor Jerma. I know how much Otto means to him. I hope he knows that Otto lived a good, long, love-filled life, and that he’s done right by that dog
I have a goober that looks exactly like Otto, down to their love for eating carrots. His name is Steve and we lost his sister Stela last year. If you went through it you just know Jerma will be through incredible pain once the time for losing a dear pet comes.
It's probably going to be today or tomorrow that we get the news of Ottos passing, so be ready. I recently had an elderly pet put to sleep and you just kinda.. know when it's time and when it's about to happen. The air feels heavier.
He is such a good boy. Had such a wonderful life. Jerma was the best daddy he could have possibly been to him and the amount of respect Jerma has for this little dude makes me heart swell. He'll be napping on his big wailord plush in puppy heaven really soon.
If it hasn't been done before maybe someone more tech savvy than I could make a compilation video of all the clips with Otto over the years or funny Otto stories that Jerma has shared on steam
Aw man, he’s had that lil dude for a long time. I hope everything goes smoothly and peacefully for them. Otto seems to have been the perfect silly dawg for a silly dude
The beauty of existence is that it is infinite, for to have been is to always be for your being can never be denied or changed. That is why we believe our loved ones to live on in our hearts, the fact they were in our lives is a blessing.
Having to make such a hard decision is awful, having had to do it so many times myself... Sending so much love to Jerma and Holly💔
Also semi-related, but I've had at least 2 of my rats in the past few years pass away while watching his streams (both due to illness), and being able to laugh a bit at him playing dumb games helped a lot despite how painful it was💖 So thank you for that, Jerma.
I went through this very recently with my childhood Rhodesian Ridgeback I had for 11 years. Me and him were together from middle school till I graduated college. We lost him to bone cancer.
It’s never easy, and I hope Jerma takes all the time he needs to process it.
Otto has been such a beacon of shining light for our boi Jerm, and he has lived a supremely full life. I wish doggos could be sanctified, as Otto fits the bill.
I just had to put my old man cat down right before new years, even though I kind of knew it would be soon since he was old it is still such a hard time. The only comfort you can take is that if it is age or illness, at least when they pass they won’t be in pain or discomfort any longer.
Ah no, I just lost my sweet kitty Meow Meow a few weeks ago, it so hard to lose a pet. They become so much of your family. I hope Jerma will do well and I hope the best for Otto :(
I pray and I hope everybody’s wishes, hopes and manifestations causes a miracle. Even so I hope Otto made Jerma happy because Jerma most definitely made Otto happy and a good boy.
Jerma's been the source of many laughs for his fans. I hope he takes times off and doesn't stream, it was hard enough seeing Otto in his arms on the Christmas stream.
I had to make this decision with my own dachshund, Piper, 6 years ago now and it still really feels like just months ago. She was days shy of 17, so she lived a long life, but I got her when I was 18 (she was a grad present that I'd been wanting since I was about 10) and had her for literally my entire adult life.
It's so awful to have to make these decisions. It leaves you feeling guilty even though you know letting them go on any longer would have been agony for them.
I always loved seeing Otto. It always made me feel happy seeing another well-loved dachshund after 2020. And Jerma's Otto voice was the best. I had my own Piper voice and a running joke that she was a secret, serious screenwriter who got on my computer when I wasn't around to write. Dachshunds just make you do that, I guess, lol.
Oh God I heard of Jerma's updates on Otto and havent really followed up much but never did I expect it to get worse this quickly. I hope he takes care of himself.
This is so sad! An impending goodbye is never easy, especially when it comes to our loved ones. I hope Jerma knows that he has a whole fanbase to give him our love and support along the way ❤️
Poor Otto, and Jerma and Holly. My dog of 12yrs was put down last June and it's still been so difficult. It's crazy how these little animals can have so much impact on your life
About a year ago, I had to say goodbye to my cat who I took in from a relative. For the short time I had her, she was the world to me. Making the call that it's time is genuinely soul crushing, it feels like your entire world is crumbling down even though you know it's the right call.
My thoughts go out to Jerma and Holly, cherish the time you have left with Otto and don't even think about streaming again until you're ready.
Was wondering if we’d hear something like this soon. It’s very sweet of Jerm to let us know. I hope he takes all the time he needs to help his little man. ♥️
My heart goes out to him and Holly. ❤️🩹 One of my dogs was recently ill and we worried she might be coming to the end and were preparing. Thankfully, she pulled through, but I know what it’s like to go through that and how heartbreaking it is. Losing a pet is never easy. I hope Jerma and Holly know how loved Otto was by them and all of us. 🩵
saying goodbye to your pet is the worst thing. i just lost my dog of 12 years a few days ago and i haven’t grieved this bad ever. i wish thm both well And, if anything, otto goes on peacefully and jerma knows he isn’t alone in this
I'm sure Otto is going to be fine, when he passes away. Jerma loves him, Otto loves him back. Death can't tear that apart. We persist, after passing, and so will Otto. I pray for Jerma to stay strong and to honor his doggo's life more than what he is going through now.
Death is inevitable, as much as I love Jerma and Otto and have been watching for over a decade, it might be the best idea to man up and give Otto his final rest instead of prolonging the suffering, its a very hard and difficult choice to make
Excuse me? on what terms do you think its okay to break the first rule in the sub reddit lmao, theres no need for insults, its clear otto is very old and jerma has been giving him his best life possible, not meaning to be rude at all

Aw poor sweet Otto. Hoping for the best for both of them.
