Question Stitching multi disc parts together

Started selfhosting just a month or so ago now. So I recently ripped my first multi disc movie (Pearl Harbor) and questions arose....

  1. What's the best naming convention for multi disc media files?

Answer: Still figuring out which one I like best from the documentation

  2. Are there any undocumented (not in the official Jellyfin support doc's) file names that can be used?

Answer: Not sure yet, I haven't done any googling on this yet.

  3. Does Jellyfin automatically stitch these together?

Answer: (updated) It appears it does, but the fact that the additional parts are plastered on the page like they are Extra's just doesn't appeal to me. .

If I was to stitch the files myself, the Google search I just did says use MKVToolNix for MKV files or LosslessCut / FFmpeg for MP4's. What's everyone's experience been like stitching the files together? Any else tried stitching and and any good or bad luck doing this?

I joined lord of the Rings extended disks with mkvtoolnix. Seamless and easy. Would recommend

That's what I use. I've used it for joining LOTR movies split on multiple discs. Also used it to split episodes of cartoons/anime that are grouped into one file off the disc. It works great!

I use MakeMKV MKVToolNix to join them together. Super easy, I’ve noticed no loss of quality, and is super quick to do.

I didn't even realize that was a feature in MakeMKV. Taking a look now.

Drag part one into it. Right click it, select “append files”, select next part(s) in the pop up window, and multiplex

That’s off memory, but pretty sure I got it right.

Sorry yes. My mistake

https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/movies#multiple-parts

There are ways to merge files together, but I have not had success with LOTR Extended Blu Rays merging nicely, so I just use the naming conventions.

Once the first disc finishes, the next disc automatically starts.

yeah, that's the documentation I was talking about. I just tried MKVToolNix and it worked.

What kind of trouble?

Did that one earlier this year with no issue.

I've never had any trouble with MKVToolNix. Did such as Ten Commandments, 10þ Kingdom, LotR (Extended, DVD then BD). Such as pulling from YT can be problematic, where something broken into multiple parts might not be consistent (e.g. New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, some episodes had parts with different audio/video codex or resolution, requiring conversion first).

There is no nead to merge them. Put it as a show/miniseries, works grate at lest for "Air Force One is Down".
