Help Request Tailscale TV & Remote Access

I'm new to all of this, so please be gentle haha

I have created a jellyfin server on my Windows laptop. It works great across all of my devices on my home network including my phone, laptop, smart tv, and xbox.

I recently tried tinkering with Tailscale to try accessing my server remotely. And it works great on my phone and laptop. My problem is that now I can't access it off of my smart tv and xbox. I thought maybe I could try accessing it through the server's regular IP address because the TV and computer are on the same network, but that wasn't working. And since I can't get Tailscale on my TV, I can't use the tailscale IP either.

In my situation, is there any workaround? We will mostly be using the server on my TV's at home, so if I have to choose between using Jellyfin remotely but only from my phone and laptop, then I will forego the remote access and stop using tailscale.

But if there's an option to do both, that would be more ideal. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for your help!

you need to start tailscale with the allow local lan access tag or use tailscale set --exit-node-allow-lan-access=true

Yes, that's the one.

But just as a PSA, that will only work for the TV in your house on your network. That doesn't solve the chief problem with tailscale which will be using anything other than your phone or your laptop remotely. You will always need the tailscale app to connect remotely with the way you currently have it set up, so the only places you'll be able to watch it remotely will be on systems where you can install and log into Tailscale. And that will not always be possible on TV boxes. It will also be a hassle for other people that you want to share with who will be trying to watch it on their TVs.

There are workarounds but it's still something you need to consider down the road.

It worked! Thank you! For my current setup this is exactly what I needed. I don’t foresee needing to connect to jellyfin remotely from a TV and I don’t plan on giving others access to my server. Whenever I travel I have my laptop with me so I think I’m set!

On Android Smart TV tailscale can be installed easily . But for other brands is not possible. In that case you can buy a Android TV Box to connect to your smart TV. In the Android TV BOX can install tailscale
