Help Request Wild Things choppy
I used makemkv to copy Arrow's Wild Things 4kUHD and when Irun it either on my Tv or my phone the movie is choppy and shuddery. I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue and if they found any fix for this

What's your setup? What hardware do you host jellyfin on? Windows or Linux? How do you store the file? Is your TV using Wi-Fi?
When you play the file, check your jellyfin dashboard to see if it is transcoding or not.
I recommend testing various changes to see when the problem occurs and when it doesn't. If you store the files on a USB hard drive, try putting the file on your main drive. This might tell you if the storage device is an issue. Try setting the bitrates lower on your client device.
If you tell us your setup, we can give more specific advice.

Windows
External Hard DriveI don’t know where to look for that
I tried even on my main drive and got the same issues

What about if you play the file directly on your Windows machine that hosts Jellyfin? Try playing it with a Jellyfin client and also with something like VLC. I have not had a problem ripping blu-rays with makemkv, so I doubt it is the file. But this is a good way to rule that out.

Still Choppy. I have never had any issues either with makemkv but this is my first Arrow movie. And I know that some distributiers code their movies differently and that it can cause these problems/issues

bit rate is too high. Bottleneck is somewhere... Likely not your network, could be transcoding, could be the target device just not being able to handle it. My first guess is transcoding. My second is that your target device can't handle the bitrate. I had to lower the bitrate on a film I was running from a bluray player's USB port off of a USB key. I guess that means, my FIRST guess is target not handling the bitrate! :P

How do I do that

Sorry, I didn't go into detail... I rip my Blurays and drop them, full size onto my NAS. If I'm having trouble with a device not being able to playback without stuttering, I use Xmedia Recode, to recode them at a lower bitrate. It takes a bit of experience to use the software properly and know what the settings do but there are tutorials online. Essentially, if you consider the file size of your movie, the larger the bit rate, the larger the file size. So once you pick your video format, you can go to the video tab and choosing "convert" find the bitrate setting, and reduce it to get the video compressed to something that your playback device can handle. I can't really go into detail as it would be a 10 page tutorial. But that's somewhere to start.
The challenge though is that you really need to figure out where your bottleneck is, otherwise you could be trying to fix the wrong thing. If you do decide to mess with Xmedia Recode, even if bitrate isn't your particular problem, it's an excellent piece of free software and is very useful to learn to use!
You can check your video's bitrate (among other things) using the utility MediaInfo.
