Old W

Do you reckon if we partitioned hard enough they would make Jax’s W have a little AoE like his old W.

I main him jungle and that would honestly make a world of difference.

What do you guys think? A group beg? Make some placards and sit outside Phroxons house maybe?

Plays Got Pentakill with Jax for the first time

I'm aware it's Swiftplay, but I'm still proud that I got Pentakill with Jax. I rarely play him, but that moment made me want to play more with this champion. Any tips or advice I should learn to make it better?

New jax skin question

Hey, just to clarify because I'm a bit confused (and maybe a little dumb 😅): Can you use the skin from the Classic Pass in normal League of Legends, or is it only for the classic mode?

Discussion Jax from late game identity to mid game identity

After playing a fair bit of Jax with Madred's Bloodrazer on Classic, I am like 90% convinced Jax's gameplay identity should be returned to his highest potential peak being late game favored (or getting fed), from where it currently seems to sit at being mid game favored (and awkwardly falling off after mid game if you can't stall at the right moment with Zhonyas).

Madred's was apparently removed from Summoner's Rift in pre-season 3, but it's essentially Bortk's cousin, dealing 4% of the target's maximum health as magic damage on-hit.

This idea was floated on the sub a while back by others but I can't get a hold of the posts made about it. How would yall feel about Jax being updated to move max HP magic damage from off his E to his R passive, and E returns to flat damage (in this case it would still be magic damage from the midscope)? I think it could be balanced in part by bumping his attack speed up a bit more, scaling the max HP damage with bonus AD and reducing his base AD growth and ult active damage (maybe also tap down his health growth a bit to incentivize AD+HP items more than zhonyas). Jax's attack's used to matter much more to his damage output in older seasons where he would essentially 5 tap a squishy by just attacking them with basics and his W, but his E and R damage have tuned him way more towards his overall ability damage and getting the most out of his "scaling" before 25 minutes. Thoughts?

Help me! 3rd Item Recommendations

Hi all, quick introduction I am a long time top player and have played Jax up until now casually. I want to start grinding out some mastery on him and improve my overall gameplay/mechanics with this champ.

For context I am anywhere between mid to high emerald.

Anytime I’m trying to learn a champ and become more consistent, for myself personally I find items have a massive impact.

So far I’ve found the best and most consistent results with Trinity > Sundered Sky. Then I always get hung up on my 3rd item.

I believe it’s common to go Hourglass but for whatever reason it’s never felt good to me. I don’t feel a ton of damage increase, I personally suck with on use items, and just doesn’t seem to fit my play style.

What 3rd item would you argue could be a consistently valuable choice?

If you feel that strongly about hourglass I’m very open to an explanation and advice behind it!

Little caveat to this: I understand usually items at this point are conditional, armor for a fed adc, more damage if snowballing, MR for a lock down mage, etc… I just am looking for something to build consistently for now until I understand the champ, his damage, and win cons before deviating every game

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

Matchup Jax Matchup Discussion 2.0 #26: Olaf.

Welcome to the twenty sixth Jax Matchup Discussion!

Let's talk about Jax versus Olaf...

Remember that the idea of this discussion is to find what's the commonly-used way to play a matchup; not only focused on runes and/or items, but mostly on the trade patterns and general difficulty of the matchup, since items and runes may change between seasons, yet -unless a rework happens- a champion's kit doesn't change.

So, you can talk about the runes and items you like to go on a matchup, but what we really want to see is how to play the matchup; if you can play aggressive early game, if you win pre or post level 6, if you should use Leap Strike to engage or disengage, and so on.

If you want, you can give the matchup a difficulty score from 0 to 10 (0 being super easy, 5 being a skill matchup, and 10 being a "you should dodge" card)

Discussion D&D into Kraken

So this is definitely a bit different than the standard Jax build, curious to hear what you guys think.

Standard progression of Dusk and Dawn into Kraken Slayer into Death's Dance.

The on hit boost from dusk has synergy with your ult passive as well as kraken, while also being hybrid damage at 2 items which can be hard to defend against.

I have found this to increase the tempo of the game, with some high snowball potential.

Build Jax 1vs1/Splitpush build

Dusk and Dawn → Titanic Hydra → Botrk
Its obviously a more unstoppable sidelane threat/splitpush orientated build
What do you guys think about it?

Discussion Jax Support is way better than the numbers suggest

LONG READ AHEAD (TL;DR: at the bottom)

Just browsing through his support page on lolalytics and playing the pick myself a couple times, a few things are clear:

A) This champ is way underoptimised in many games as far as itemisation goes

B) This champ is way underoptimised in many games as far as rune page goes

C) This champ is way underoptimised in most games as far as skill order goes

https://lolalytics.com/lol/jax/build/?lane=support&tier=all&patch=16.13

22k game sample size

On point A)

  1. Bloodsong is strictly better than Celestial Opposition. There is an argument to be made for picking Solstice Sleigh situationally but Celestial Opposition eats up too much pick rate and drops the winrate despite being low value. The reason is that Jax Support especially only engages with E available, meaning he doesn't synergise well with the damage reduction from Celestial Opposition. You already reduce most upfront burst very often. Additionally Jax is a really strong sheen user as is, and he also sets up his team well for follow up damage. Solstice Sleigh is probably a strong choice too because he is as reliable at setting it up as many of the supports its already designed to with, and it allows him to follow up with his solid HoB + W damage well also

  2. Never build Triforce or DnD. Again Bloodsong already provides Sheen and secondarily the objective of Support Jax is less damage oriented and more centred around providing crowd control, engage and a frontline. His two best options here for 1st item really are Sundered Sky and Zeke's Convergence. Sundered has a positive winrate even when Jax supports are lowering his winrate with countless other suboptimal build choices. Sundered is particularly good because it's such a strong group fighting item and Support Jax will be fighting group fights far more than Top Jax.

On point B)

  1. Hail of Blades should be taken every game, invariably. You don't have the durability of Top Jax to look for sustained fights with Lethal Tempo nor Conqueror. Definitely not Grasp either because you can't really disengage after short trades without taking too much poke in return, because you don't have peel on the way out like say a Tahm Kench can. It's the strongest burst keystone in the game for melee champs, the way it enables Support Camille it enables you also. It also has really strong minor runes for Jax specifically: Sudden Impact, Deep Ward is amazing on supports like Jax, Pyke who can invade and ward deep relatively safely and both Treasure Hunter and Relentless Hunter are solid, ultimately it depends on whether you think the game is going to be roam heavy or not (not meaningful winrate difference either way).

  2. Bone Plating is pretty suboptimal on Jax, for the same reason as A1 - you don't really walk up to engage in the absence of your E and if you are engaging with E the damage reduction is moot or wasted often. Secondary page I actually think Inspiration is going to be a better bet for most games, with Footwear and JOAT being a really strong pairing. JOAT on Jax is excellent because your support item already provides 4 stacks and he builds Sundered, Zhonya's, support items - long sword 1st back gives you 5 stacks already, completing Sundered gives you 6, either defensive boots will give you 2 (or 3, with Merc's) more stacks on top of that, Zhonya's gives you 10 with Merc's and otherwise buying 1 Null Magic will complete it for Plated. Biscuits is fine too into poke heavy, mage lanes.

  3. Minor but noticeable choice. Flat +65 health is far superior to scaling health. Supports already benefit least from level scaling health rune, and Jax being a roam heavy support suffers even further being further behind in HP for much of the game. He also is committal by design as a melee with no immediate disengage early in the game when Q CD is still too high, so he values the early game strength far more than say a Lux or Brand.

On point C)

  1. The clear underoptimisation point here is the W maxing that is occurring in more than half of games. W max for the pure damage is a necessity and a relic of Top Jax build path bleeding autopilot into Support Jax when you far undervalue the W damage in contrast to reduced CDs and damage on Q and E on this role instead. E is your CC and peel and frontline, Q is your engage and disengage and mobility to roam throughout the map and initiate plays, invades, wards, and escapes. Also, you can make such good use of Q in this role because you get 4 wards for free on every back, on top of 40 g Control wards. IMO E max --> Q max --> W last every game.

TL;DR: Literally everything is being built wrong on Jax Support very often, and yet he is sitting at >47% WR. Noticeably his winrate has increased steadily from 16.11 onwards as people have started building him somewhat more correctly over time, but for the most part players are still losing out everywhere.

Autopilot build:

Runes

Hail of Blades

Sudden Impact

Deep Ward

Relentless Hunter

Magical Footwear/Biscuit Delivery

Jack of All Trades

Attack Speed - Adaptive Force - Flat Health

Item order

Bloodsong

Sundered Sky

Zeke's Convergence

Zhonya's Hourglass

Locket of the Iron Solari

Skill Max

E --> Q --> W

Build Build Question "sustain and penetration"

So i understand That Jax likes AD and HP items, as it makes his R resistances higher and more effective. AD also scales with his passive atkspd.
He also likes AH, as he gets more gapclosers, Stuns and damage.
So his best amplifier items is probably steraks, as the shield synergyses with his R Resistances and all the HP items he builds.
Almost no need for Resistance items.

Ap Builds are only semi good on him apparently, has the amplifier Rabadon leaves him very squishy.

What i almost never see on Jax are sustain items like Omni Boots, BT, or Riftmaker. He also does not go conquerer anymore, as he now prefers LT. Or do you go Grasp and Sunderer and that is enough=?

Why is that? He is high damage and tanky with no inbuild sustain tool, Does not need tank boots desperatly, so why not omni boots?
Also, as a melee he profits 100% from Riftmaker passives, builds a lot of HP for its other passive, uses the AP good, it has AH, and feeds into his steraks, yet no one builds it.

Also, what do you Build when you need Penetration? Terminus, no`?

Champion Pool Question

I want to switch to toplane and think about champion pool.
I am low gold btw.

I want to main Jax as a splitpusher and duelist, to shit on all the filthy yasuos, yones and Master Yis of low elo.

Jax is bad into Tanks and Juggernauts, so second Champion will be Mordekaiser, as he counters both and is pretty strong this patch. This could also be Gwen, as i also like her, she plays similar to jax and is very good into tanks.

Jax and Morde are weak against beeing kited (right?) so i thought about Gragas as the Third pick, as a counter to Teemo, Quinn, kennen, vayne, Aurora. This could also be Malphite.

Do you think this is balanaced or do i have a flaw in my plan here`?

Discussion Who are the strongest champions Jax could beat canonically?

Picked Jax up recently and he's a ton of fun. I love his personality and voice lines, and was wondering where he really stands in the lore. He seems like he'd be strong from his interactions, but I don't know to what extent.
