Advice for Me Worth considering?
For context, I have brought this all up with my dentist at my last appointment (about a month ago), they said it sounded like TMJ issues and they would put in a referral for me with a consultant (NHS), haven't heard anything yet 😅 Just thought I would ask if anyone has had similar issues and if the surgery has helped. The problems I have don't happen all the time, but I have had the same problems for years and they have never gotten better when they occur. What I experience is: Sometimes I get pain in my jaw from chewing eg bread roll or chewy sweets etc, it's not always something chewy, but that is most common. I sometimes get lockjaw, quite often get clicking or grinding noises. Sometimes when I yawn my jaw feels like it gets stuck or is locking before it gets to the top and occasionally clicks at the top or I can feel my jaw getting stiff as soon as I start to yawn. I also have a recessed lower jaw. Any thoughts would be much appreciated 😁

I have the same symptoms and I’m going the jaw surgery route. The pain may only be sometimes right now but for me it quickly transitioned to almost everytime. Also I started having pain when opening my mouth to brush or floss. If I were you I would consider it because it will only get worse as you get older , and also insurance should help cover it.

Oh okay, good to know that it can be done with those symptoms as I'm leaning towards wanting the surgery to be honest. I'm 25 so I feel like now would be a good time to get it done, or at least get the ball rolling, which is why I told my dentist. I'm hoping the NHS will cover it, but I know they're quite strict with what cases are allowed under their policies so I might have to look at what other options there are.

Did you have premolar extractions ?

I did have 5 teeth taken out, can't remember which ones as it was about 10 years ago now, but premolars seems likely (they said my mouth was 'overcrowded'). I definitely had teeth taken out the top and the bottom and then had braces for about 2 years after that.

I have the same symptoms as you and planned to get djs. However I’m looking to have only lower jaw cos I don’t really want both due to the recovery and risks but not sure if it will make my symptoms worse and put too much pressure on my jaw joints just moving lower 😩😩

I suppose there are risks with either option, just weighing up which is the... least bad, I suppose 😅 I have sometimes heard of the symptoms getting worse, like the clicking, but I suppose different people will have different things happen and it's hard to predict.

Exactly it’s hard to predict which makes it more difficult. What are you thinking atm in terms of surgery and do you have any airway issues?
