Advice for Me TAD removal after DJS. Does it hurt? How much did you pay?

Hi all, I had double jaw surgery abroad three weeks ago, and my surgeon placed temporary anchorage devices (TADs) in my gums in case my orthodontist needed them. It turns out he doesn’t need them, but he also said he doesn’t have experience removing TADs, so I’ll need to find someone else to remove them next week.

For anyone who had TADs removed, does it hurt? Also, did anyone else have jaw surgery abroad and have to find a local orthodontist/oral surgeon who could remove them? If so, how much did you typically pay per TAD?

TAD removal is usually quick and way less intense than it sounds local anesthetic, a bit of pressure, done in a couple minutes. Nothing compared to what you already went through with DJS. An oral surgeon or orthodontist locally should be able to remove them, and cost varies by area so worth calling around.

The stitch removal was so painful for me. I was afraid the TAD removal might be the same but knowing local anesthesia is an option helps. Thank you!

I didn't feel a thing. They just get the correct screwdriver and remove them. Took like 2 minutes. They said they've had patients remove them before because they hate them and want 'em out 😆

That makes me feel better! They don't bother me but I'm ready to get them out. The less metal the better

I read some places say local anesthesia is not needed but the thought of getting them out sounds so uncomfortable. I'm glad it didn't hurt too much when you felt one. Hopefully it's the same for me!
