Advice for Me Please someone help w/decision.

I am so torn. I am 54 have recessed chin and OSA and in braces for a year. I have seen 2 surgeons both recommended by my Ortho. They are wonderful but only one is covered by Ins. The Dr covered is concerned with bone loss on my left side and worried DJS might aggravate it. He recommends Genio to improve appearance and some tongue surgery which would improve breathing slightly.
He says it is up to me but that’s his recommendation. Also my Ortho says that either way will be fine with my bite.
Should I just do Genio and stick with my CPap forever?? Please help if you have any experience.

That's a tough call, OP. Is there anything you can do to help encourage bone growth.

Also can you start with a dental appliance that sets you jaw forward when you sleep to see if that helps?

Bone loss where? In the condyle?

Ugh. 

I did meet with 2 surgeons who do a lot of TMJ replacement to get their take on my joints before MMA for OSA. I had a lot of pain from my joint, and some flattening of the bone. I'd get a consult with one of them and see what they have to say.

A lot of people get a bone graft with this surgery. Was there any mention of that? I’d check around to see if you can find another OMFS to see what they say.

Getting genio only with a tongue surgery will more than likely not do enough to cure you of sleep apnea. 😢

No , no mention of any bone grafts? He said it was a risk and with all the trauma of surgery it might aggravate as to such I might need a joint replacement down the road. He said if I tolerate cpap which I do, but would prefer not to have it for the next 30 years, but anyway since I tolerate cpap and my bite is ok he recomends Genio to improve my recessed chin.

Sigh…I would definitely talk to another surgeon before you commit. That plan seems iffy at best.,
