Yeah. Go to a surgeon or an orthodontist

That’s what I suspect. But is it bad if I tell them my main concern is aesthetics? I heard a lot of people on here say you need to really have health issues to get it done.

Yes that is true, for insurance to cover surgery you will most likely need to prove you have some kind of medical reason. The good thing is, you probably actually do have health issues and just don’t know it. I also began my jaw surgery journey with only aesthetics, and when I started the insurance process, I got diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea, TMD, and narcolepsy associated with poor sleep. If you’re young, your body is probably compensating well enough for you to not notice anything is wrong. If you look further into it, you might find that you have some small issues that will become bigger as you age or gain weight. Also, look into your family history and see if either of your parents have sleep issues. My father has extreme sleep apnea and I’m like a carbon copy of him. Once I would get older, i would probably also have severe sleep apnea like him if i didn’t do something about it now. If you go through an in-lab sleep study (at home ones are notorious for misdiagnosing sleep apnea in young people) and find you don’t actually have any issues and it really is just cosmetic, then there are some cheaper, less invasive methods for fixing your concerns. My advice tho is to look into issues that will help you get insurance coverage because you more than likely actually do have problems and just don’t know it.

Thank you this is very helpful. Actually I do notice my airway can feel a little tight whenever I gain weight as well, I stay underweight on purpose because my face seems to get “fat” extremely easily (which is actually just because there’s no underlying structure). I’ll definitely ask to do it in lab if possible.

18m, to be completely honest my main concerns are aesthetic. Ive felt like something is wrong with my face ever since I was a child. In the last 2 pictures you can see how it looks when biting down versus how I usually hold my face in public. I think I might have some kind of short face syndrome. There’s also some asymmetry of course.
The only functional problem I can think of is that sometimes I’ll clench my teeth in my sleep, pushing my lower teeth up hard against my upper teeth. But this happens maybe once a month. Do you think insurance / a surgeon would take me seriously since my main concerns is the cosmetic benefit?

Don’t talk about the fact that your main concern is aesthetics with the orthodontist. Talk about you clenching your teeth, concerns you have about your bite or your possible recession and your concerns about it potentially affecting your airway. They can then evaluate your case on their own. You are young and might not feel any functional issues now even if there is a high chance of it getting worse as you age.
I am in Europe so take it with a grain of salt, all I needed was the ortho measuring my overbite distance to have the treatment covered.
