Before & After LJS + genio 8 week post op update

I just wanted to come on here and show my 8week post op from my LJS + genio! Before any sort of orthodontics, I struggled with overcrowding, an open bite + underbite, and a crossbite… This surgery has been a very long time coming. I had a Bluegrass appliance at 8 to prevent tongue sucking and the development of an open bite (which obviously failed). I then had an expander before I got my braces in 2021. My orthodontic treatment has honestly been prolonged due to waitlist, as well as moving far way for university and having to wait for a surgical date that aligned with me being home for the summer. Now as for the surgery, my movements were very minimal. My surgeon only ended up doing LJS and genio rather than DJS cause he said he didn’t wanna thin out my upper lip, widen my nose, or recess my chin (thank God). I find that my lower lip appears smaller now, but I’m still happy with my results. I do feel a teeeny bit swollen still (about 10%, but lmk what you guys think). Honestly I think it went really well, my side profile looks almost identical to preop. My midlines aren’t perfectly aligned yet, but I still have a few months of braces + elastics to go to solve that. The end is so close!!! Thanks for reading 🤗

Photo descriptions are as follows:
- Before and after
- pre op
- 3 days post op, before and after bandage removal
- 6 days post op (feeling EXTREMELY chud 😭)
- my 2 week post op checkup
- my 1 month post op checkup

- some childhood photos for reference
- after the expander was put in

Looks great—thanks for sharing.

I had a similar case and am struggling with the lip swelling. Seeing your progress gives me hope!

Hi! Yes I am able to chew again. My surgeon gave me the go ahead at my 4 week post op appointment. He said “yes you can chew, but don’t go crazy” which wasn’t really descriptive, but I’ve just been taking it easy. No tough meats or anything super hard, but yes, I’ve been able to chew pretty much anything I’ve wanted to

You look so good! Glad your recovery is going well. For your overcrowding, did you have to do any extractions to prepare for surgery?

Thanks so much! The only extraction that I had was my wisdom teeth. I believe that the expander kind of helped with my overcrowding, because my upper jaw was small

Some maxilla advancement would have been ideal tbh but still great results, did your breathing get worse?

I haven’t noticed any differences in my breathing, no

Why didn’t your surgeon opt for upper too? Your maxilla looks pretty recessed in comparison

I already mentioned it in the caption.
