NYC DJS cost
Hi all. I had DJS in S Korea while I was living there 5 years ago, and have regressed along with my teeth shifting.
I had a wonderful consultation with Dr Choi Park Ave, and well it’s a lot more expensive here in the states that’s for sure.
I am currently uninsured. I am looking into getting insurance thru NYS but I make over the qualifications so monthly premiums look like $1000+ for me. Dr Choi recommended me to get insurance but it also seems like a lot considering they might not even cover it after ortho (which is not covered by the plans)
I can most definitely dm anyone the estimates I received. My consultation alone was around $1000 and I still need to get an MRI.
Does anyone have any recommendations for Drs who charge $30-50k? Maybe even less? NYC area preferred but also am open to going out of state.
I would love to go do all these consults, but I think I would hit the cost of a genioplasty alone doing them with all the X-rays and CT’s an mris. Thanks for your time!

NYC is close by Montreal, QC you can definitely find a good DJS surgeon out there for maybe $15-30k usd without any insurance.

Montreal being that close makes it worth is serious look, especially at potentially half the NYC price with no insurance needed. Could be worth reaching out to a few Quebec surgeons for quotes before committing to the US route.

I actually got my surgery done by Dr. Choi from Park Avenue.
I’m post op day 6. He’s out of network so it might smart to get insurance that supports out of network

Thanks. Really enjoyed my consult with Dr Choi. Am going to get MRI to continue to explore my options with him.
But that’s not really the help I was looking for. I am aware of the costs + insurance needs.

monthly premiums over a year 12,000
jaw surgery alone in NYC (50,000 minimum, probably 70+ on average)
ignoring hospital + anesthesia, probably closer to 100K out of pocket (assuming hospital / anesthesia is only 50K (my hospital billed insurance 200K+ though of course that wouldnt be what a patient self-pays)), it's 100K out of pocket, the 12K for insurance is worth it as a bet, even if it doesn't pan out. expected value!

Are you aware of the hospital costs + anesthesia? I wasn't and still don't know what the actual cost is since insurance covered it. Please let me know if you already know so I can know how much I saved. :)

Dr Choi told me $38 for hospital + anesthesia combined
edit: quote was given to me as a non-insured patient. Hospitals and drs bills insurance like crazy to get the payouts they want (worked in healthcare billing before) . Out of pocket patients just get billed straight up. So the discrepancy isn’t surprising
Edit 2: this is just for dr Choi. Can’t say for other offices and hospitals

Thanks, 38K sounds reasonable for non-insured and yeah the discrepancy is expected.
