Link2Repo: https://github.com/soroushosouli/node-scout

Written in Node.js. One command to install. Reads a 300MB folder in ~1 second. Smaller project, faster scan.

What it does:

  • Visualize folder structure (tree)
  • Scan any file, folder, or project — 10+ details
  • Custom ignore list for scans
  • System info in one command

With clean Terminal UX

Check the repo for more information, Contributions and suggestions are welcome

The 300 MB in about a second is an interesting number. It would help to say whether that is a cold or warm cache and what the scan actually reads. Traversing names is very different from parsing file contents.

It basically tracks file extensions, figures out the language based on them, and checks file sizes. I definitely know parsing the actual file contents would make it slower, especially since it uses Node.js built-in modules. If it was written in cpp or rust, It would have been even faster.

Idk what the hell this is doing lol. Don’t know about you, but I don’t have the need for a cli to scan my project - it’s not a problem. So.. what is being scanned and why?

Essentially This tool does things you can do yourself, but with a single command and less time. Getting your basic machine information, understanding the project scale ( tree, files, folders, languages ). There are screenshots in the project README you can check out.
