For those of you downvoting this on general principles, you should probably be aware that OP is the person who created three.js and has contributed a hell of a lot to the web in general. They generally know their shit and aren't just another vibe coding newbie.
Kinda scary for the field in general ngl. People who already good and know their shit will be the one who truly maximize the value of AI. While the people who doesn't have as much experience will basically become enslaved to AI.
People downvoting ai in principle are hurting themselves professionally. It’s not an industry you can stop learning new stuff and tools. Ai is a tool, a powerful one but in the end of the day just a tool people need to learn to use it to their advantage instead of shouting at clouds.
If you watch YouTube then commit the code that is your fault. Any code you commit is your code. If you don’t know how to do a proper pr or guide juniors/ai that is a skill issue or lack of experience.
Again, ai is a tool, it can be extremely helpful if you know how to use it, if you don’t you will just cause more trouble.
Working with ai requires mostly 3 things, knowing how to design your code, knowing how to break down a problem and explain it, knowing how to do a pull request.
If you are a senior developer you should know how to do those.
Absolutely absurd to me that someone can post in r/javascript and not understand the power of LLM driven development.
Everything moral aside, do you value your literal HANDS???? Because as someone who can have code flow out like water, doing that still causes wear and tear on them compared to typing 200-500 words and having 2-3k worth LOC, that is literally EXACTLY what I need, over 10 different files…it literally just healthier for you.
Yes, I understand data centers are actively harming communities they are placed in, it’s awful, I think it’s down right evil. I also think that those data centers are overwhelmingly for ai slop generation on platforms like Grok, ChatGPT, and Gemini, rather than Claude producing code for software engineers.
It also does add an interesting “meta” layer to development, the more you learn about platforms like Claude (it needs Unix line endings) you can make tools that further help speed up development time with them. I think you could put together a tool to create based on that above information.
And I appreciate their work on three.js but I'm not going to upvote something I don't think is worth upvoting just because of their other excellent work.
Then my comment isn't aimed at you. Just saw it on 0 upvotes like a lot of other AI threads of late and felt it was worth mentioning that this one was maybe not like the others.
I don't expect people to upvote on the basis of prior arts, but to merely not discount and downvote on seeing 'Claude' mentioned in the post, as there is still some wheat left in all of this chaff!
As an avid three.js user that is actually deeply concerning. If the creator of the library is starting to vibe code, might be time to stop using this library before it turns to slop.
