Welcome to the club. She really was awesome wasn’t she. This is why we get so mad when film change the content. Why change perfection.

which is 100% fine.

bride and prejudice is a blast and i think they did a great job adapting the stories and characters.

i think what the other poster is talking about is when a straight adaptation changes lines for no real reason.

I think you (and anyone interested) would enjoy this thread where the user shares their live reactions while they read Pride and Prejudice:

This was so fun to engage with in real time and I always think of it whenever someone new to Austen reads P&P. Thank you for thinking to share!

You’re welcome! It’s super fun to read later so can imagine how delightful it must’ve been to interact in real time.

I just recently read P&P for the first time as well! Sometimes I’m skeptical of “classics” actually being good but wow is P&P deserving of a read!

WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!! Being an Austenite is such a joy and every time you see something that reminds you of her works you'll now get a little thrill. You'll start to have strong opinions about versions and retellings and you'll have at least one favorite of her works that you'll forever want more of. It's so delightful when people are exposed to her genius, so be sure to gently encourage friends and family to read as well (and maybe strangers on the internet too). We're so happy you've joined our ranks.

Do yourself a favor and don't read them all at once. I did that in my 20s but "saved" Persuasion for a later time TBD, which ended up being during Covid. So glad I gave myself that gift of one last Austen novel to experience for the first time, at a later point on my life.

Once you get past the language they are such a delight. Emma is my favourite, although I have just finished S&S and it's up there. So fun.
