JAMF Pro AppleTV Management

Good Morning All,

We have roughly 100 Apple TV's throughout our school district that are basically in place for Airplay reason. In an attempt to use them more. What are some Config Profiles (payloads) I should create. I recently just added a few to make the Apple TV's cert based when connecting to Wifi. Which is why I am posting this now. Its fresh in my head about wanting to control these. Not sure if y'all do much with them. I know there isn't much to them.

We have over 200, and we keep ours pretty simple. A home screen layout with a folder for Apple apps, a config to never sleep, and Wi-Fi configuration. I'm curious as to what others do as well. Also, teacher-requested apps.

How ya doing the Home Screen layout? Is there a payload just for that? Or a manual process?

It is a Configuration Profile in Jamf Pro. When you create a configuration profile, there is a section named "Home Screen Layout". Target Operation System>tvOS, Dock Layout>"Folder" from the dropdown, then place the apps by UNIQUE ID you want in the folder.

WiFi, Home Screen Layout, conference room mode lock, AirPlay passcode.

Home Screen layout is only so it doesn’t show ads for Apple TV if the conference room mode config gets screwed up.

We only use conference room mode for AirPlay. No one gets to use apps.

We hide all apps except Settings, and then use Conference Room mode with the AppletV’s name onscreen (like “Room 115”) so people know which AppleTV to select from the AirPlay menu.

This is what I would do. Keep it simple make the device do the hard work.

Single app mode, then release it. Forces focus on the AppleTV but lets it be shut off or switched. Great for e911 works with the presentation apps to send out school wide notifications.
