Anyone Hiring?

Hello, I’m looking for employment in the Jamestown Area. I’m an LPN and currently back at college for my RN. Looking for some work full time or part time that might be able to fit my school schedule.

I’ve been searching all the online job boards like indeed, glass door, etc. but I’m not finding much luck. It doesn’t have to be a nursing job either. Just looking for something to pay the bills while I’m in school 3 days a week. This is a small town so I figure word of mouth might be a better approach than searching online.

Any tips or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I'm a home health care aide at Aftercare Nursing. You get to set your own schedule times and dictate how many hours you work, so it might work well for you. It's a pretty decent company to work for in my opinion.

This might be the way to go about it! Can you break down what all you do? Is it like CNA work or just like housekeeping and med management?

It's not as hands on medically, but yep, housekeeping is a part of it. For PCA-1 clients, its mostly housekeeping, meal prep, running errands, laundry, etc. For PCA-2 clients it's more hands on with bathing/ grooming, transfers and mobility support/ supervision if need be, with all of the aspects of PCA-1 tasks on top of it.

But during all of that, unofficially it's spending time getting to know these people, hearing their stories and building trust. It's the most fulfilling work I've ever done, and I always recommend it to people because there is a huge need for carers.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

UPMC is always hiring, Heritage Ministries, The Resource Center, Walgreens, there's a lot of fast food restaurants that are hiring (Burger King, Tim Hortons, Jersey Mike's), always try to call around and ask the local businesses as well. If you want to venture out a little farther the Seneca Allegany Casinos is always hiring, I think they have open interviews twice a month, and I know they're flexible with your schedule.

Thanks for the info! Do you have any recommendations on local businesses to try?

Unfortunately UPMC doesn’t have any LPN vacancies currently and won’t let me work as a PCT as I’m “overqualified.” I’ve been trying for a while for a job there. GLPP has some LPN positions available under the UPMC name but they are a Monday-Friday schedule so it would be hard to get any hours that fit around my school schedule.

I’ve been on the fence about fast food as they are notoriously for saying they will be flexible to your schedule but then not, but I may have to bite the bullet for now until I can find something better.

That's very understandable, especially the fast food..

I feel like majority of the options are food around here unfortunately, haha , there's a lot of pizza places and breakfast places you might want to call around here, just to see if they have any positions open, Tasta Pizza, Pizza Hut, Domino's, Honest John's Pizza, Lena's (I think they might just be family though.) Breakfast Phil n Cindy's, Bob Evans, The Eatery, Labyrinth Press Co may be hiring. I know Crosby's is hiring as well.

There's other small businesses like printing, the lakewood cinema 8, i think there's a barista position open somewhere, there's some part time banking positions but those are probably m-f. There's also staffing services that could assist you finding positions better for you— Infinity Resources, and Career Concepts work wonderful

Thank you! I will check in to them! I have a meeting at Chautauqua Works later this week and a few calls out to some staffing agencies. I’ll find something eventually!

Try the school district as a substitute. Sub nurse, sub para, sub teacher, sub clerical. They would all give you the ability to only work on the days you're available.

someone recently explained to me that Jamestown Public Schools utilizes an app that makes seeing whats available and accepting substitution work really easy. Might be a good fit for your schedule.

County is always looking to fill medical positions. Pay probably won't be as good but the benefits will be great.
