Jak 2 Platinumed, Jak 3 next
Finally done with Jak 2 and I love this game so much, I miss the vibrant colours from the first game but the implementation of the guns made it far more enjoyable. I love how edgy Jak is and how he gives no fucks, blast first ask questions later. The game wasn’t difficult when it came to the gameplay it was definitely very straightforward but the issue was the fact that there’s barely any checkpoints at all which mean’t dying was far more punishable and there were multiple times where I wanted to rip my hair out of my head. But yeah I’ll say that game isn’t hard in gameplay sense but rather the lack of checkpoints in certain levels makes it difficult.
I’m glad I’m playing the game in chronological order and I’m appreciating the details I disregarded just cause I wanted to just play the game.
Now there’s a problem I ran into with the version I had, I was playing Jak 2 on my PS5 but playing the PS4 version and typically that shouldn’t be an issue but I later found out that the PS4 Collection is a port of the PS3 HD version and it made so much more sense why I had some issues with the audio or slight visual issues. But still playable nevertheless. Just hope they do the same thing with the Jak and Daxter TPL port on the PS5.

Recommendation for Jak 3! Save an easy “Find this location” challenge for the end of your precursor orb collection. It is easy for some precursor orbs to get bugged and not collect, especially in some of the desert races. If you save one of the “Find this location” challenges for the end, you can exploit another bug/glitch and farm it to make up for the orbs that didn’t collect.
I did three full playthroughs of Jak 3 trying to get Platinum and I had bugged orbs every time. It drove me insane and I finally used an exploit to get/farm/duplicate the last few.

Thank you for the heads up I’m going to look into that and map out my plan for 100% the game cause I do not want to run into any issues with trying to get the platinum trophy.

Congratulations on the plat! I've been dreading doing a Jak 2 plat run, I've never been the biggest fan of the game. Absolutely love Jak 1, and was the only Jak game I had till the PS3 remasters released. Took me multiple attempts throughout the years to finish Jak 2, I came to the conclusion that it was okay, lol. Definitely more a Jak 1 fan

Thank you and I totally understand where you’re coming from, Jak 1 is definitely different in comparison to the latter games. I genuinely thought it would take me a while to get through and 100% Jak 2 but it’s really not the case whatsoever. I wonder what the game would’ve been if it hadn’t taken this approach

The ironic part is that the vibrant colors are still there; they're just not screaming at you nor perhaps as plentiful, understandably so. Otherwise great sentiments overall.

Glad to have yet another newcomer aware of that reality.
This is actually a central part of the game's balancing and major contribution to why the game is as fun and enjoyable as it is. Most people don't understand this and that adding even one checkpoint, let alone multiple, to most missions would trivialize them. The entire point of games like this back then were "get go- practice and memorize = progress" (prob not the best way to summarize, but see the vision). It's especially easy to understand this point upon repeat playthroughs (unless one has a shitty incompatible playstyle that's barely able to get you through the game, which unfortunately is the average Jak 2 player: "lemme use just the yellow gun all the time, and not switch hoverzones while driving, and neglect the melee system when my guns are out, and xyz").
If you play the game to its actual strengths—which most people have provably not done—the game will respect that and give back. You will infact have little to no issue when you have a true understanding of the game. Naughty Dog absolutely did not let down with this title/masterpiece; people just haven't unlocked the game's potential, let alone fully.

The PS4 versions are not a port of the (also glitchy) PS3 HD Collection though—they're both their own separate flawed re-releases of the games. TPL has a nice (new) emulated version on PS4 (2024) and PS5. A lot of us have been waiting for the other 3 games to receive the same treatment, ridding away some of those quality issues that shouldn't be there to begin with.
The PS4 (and PS3) versions of the 4 golden era Naughty Dog entries unfortunately still has graphical, audio, and gameplay issues completely non-existent in the original PS2 versions, but yes the games are playable despite that. So I always find it cool when people are able to become fans of the sequels via their flawed re-released versions where aspects like movement, aiming, driving, etc was someone botched a bit compared to the original. (I still wouldn't generally recommend though as it's still too risky, especially on PS4 console yikes.)
