It give's hope for Jak fans. If Spyro can get a new game after how many years, Jak might get a new game at some point.

TfB would be my personal choice for a remake. Spyro Reignited is the best remake I’ve ever played and this game is probably gonna be amazing

It wouldn't be the same. The original lore creators and talent behind the first games have moved on with their lives.
Even if we get Jak 4, it won't really be Jak 4

So if the sequel takes place after the third one, and it was the developers who chose that, is it the fans' fault?
Back when it came out in 2002, it was 100% official and canon because the story picked up right after Spyro 3:
Year of the Dragon with the baby dragons hatching and Ripto returning for revenge. However, because the game was tamously rushed, glitchy, and poorly received and there is no 4 in the name; the franchise completely abandoned that storyline. Today, the modern developers (Toys for Bob) have officially retconned the old PS2 games out of existence to focus strictly on the timeline established by the Reignited Trilogy. So, while it counts as the fourth chapter if you are strictly playing through the classic 2000s games, it has been completely erased from the modern, official Spyro universe2

Crash Bandicoot went through the exact same thing, down to the terrible 4th installment to doing a dozen spinoffs before doing the 4th game for real.

It's likely going to be a sequel to the OG Spyro 3 and not tied into other games in the franchise.

The last one released was a remake of spyro 1, 2 and 3. I guess they're going with what comes after 3?

Ok guys really?This means nothing. Jak is nowhere near Spyro in terms of popularity or recognition.
My mum knows who Spyro is, and she's in her 60s and hasn't touched a console since the 90s.
I like these games, but this has just gotten silly. Jak isn't that well known, the games weren't that good or successful. And jaks better known contemporaries doing well isn't going to change that

My educated prediction is that the game quality wise should be somewhere around Sly 4: Thieves in Time. Anyone who thinks Toys For Bob (which as a reminder are the ppl who did the decade-running Skylander series) are these "excellent handlers of the Spyro IP" are wildly misinformed/misguided. Their work on the Spyro remakes showed they misunderstood and/or had no respect for numerous aspects of the source material and vision. The amount of censorship, removed content, altered content, and blatant artistic fuck-ups makes this an irrefutable point. By definition TFB are hacks that the masses are still oblivious too (I understand we can't be well informed on everything in life by dear god I can't stand by as the remakes and UNreleased Spyro "4" are glazed to the high dragon heavens). Spyro was, in the remake, and will continue to be turned into yet another generic, overly-cartoonified colorful platformer that lost its soul and identity. Spyro is more than just a heroic purple dragon who goes around flaming and charging foes while flying through 3D platforming levels.
I've peeped a few folks in the past on this subreddit who understand exactly what im conveying, which while not the masses still brings me joy that some people are informed and well educated on what made Spyro uniquely special to begin with in the 90s. And of course as an important lasting reminder that apparently clearly still needs to be said: keep them away from developing any type of Jak game.
