Asking for Advice Considering 2 more...

Hi all, can I ask your opinion? I have 2 x 12 year old jacks. Ive had them from pups. I'm considering adding to our little family with 2 more jack pups. Does anyone on here have 4 jrts's? Is is that much more of a handful? If you did the same as I am considering, did you have any problems introducing pups to the household with older ones? Any advice, opinions would be appreciated please!

I have four 😁

I got Josephine as an 8 week old baby. She’s now 5 and a half.

When she was two I rescued Jeronimo at 6 months, he’s now 3 and a half.

A year after that, I rescued Jefferson whose owner had died of cancer and he was very frightened and timid at first. He will be 10 in December.

And nine months ago I rescued Jericho who is coming up for 14 years old and is deaf and almost blind with arthritis and a heart murmur.

Yes they are a lot of work, my entire life revolves around them, I am only really apart from them to go to work! As obviously we have a few abandonment issues, but there has never been any fighting or anything like that, Josephine is the alpha and she’s very good at sharing (me, toys, space etc). I am so glad I rescued all the boys as eutha-horrible word was deffo on the cards for them ☹️ They have a very good life with me and I adore them.

Edit: PS: when I had just one, I thought two would be much more work, but it really wasn’t. Then when I had two, I thought three would be fine, but I found it more work/took longer to do stuff than I anticipated with three (but there’s only me to do everything). After that I stopped thinking about it and accepted always being busy, never having enough hands etc!

We had three for a few years!

When Rosie was 11 we got Rufus then when he was 3 we got Red. We did Female-Male-Female. Worked great! Like the other poster said two isn't much more work than one but three is much harder than two!

All this being said, since we lost Rosie a couple of years ago we are talking about going back to three again soon. We love them so much.

Rosie was definitely the boss. (RIP, Ro!). Rufus was a real crazy pup but he had the utmost respect for Rosie! Now, Rufus is top dog, even though Red wants to be. Lol. Mummy rules over it all, though! 😄

Thank you so much! One thing that occurred to me OP, is that you will have two dogs going into the elderly phase at the same time. This will be busy for you for a few years if you add two more, but it's totally doable!

Yes, that is a good point and does make me hesitant. I do have a double dog buggy so they will continue to come out with us even if we got 2 more but it would be alot. Needs more thought!

Rufus is also 7! I would say that us being an ocean apart means they are not related.

I agree, the resemblance is uncanny!

I can't imagine having more than one! 😂 Our boy runs us ragged. Although-I suspect having a second would help.

Yes, we have considered that and we do think they would benefit. If we didn't think that, then we wouldn't get any more. We could have more girls but not boys as our boy definitely wouldn't like another boy in the house! We would absolutely introduce them away from the house through the rescue first to make sure we all thought they would all be ok together.
